I would get it in writing that you need a more definite answer than might Phil

It is the core of windows thats important, getting software/hardware working properly within it. They had it right in the first place, windows 98, 2000 and went differently to xp, vista and then went the numbers way and I'm hearing a story that Windows is big in Japan and the number 9 is unlucky to them, so they changed it again. Come on, go back to the date thing, that will sort things out. Kings3

Although I have cancelled the mag I am still running down my DD, and the latest shows how you can download the preview of W10, and run it on a virtual hd, so anyone like me who never got passed W7 can see how it goes.

TBH i think W 8.1 is not bad, i will admit it takes a while to get to grips with but i quite like it now. However i will take up the update to W 10 when it has been out for a couple of months.

It's worth waiting to see if any of the software or hardware on W8 or 8.1 doesn't work on W10

Tried out that Windows 10 Pro for several days there, found that although they brought back task bar, with search either with cortana or web, that cortana could not be used in my location? Start menu back too, and can be maximized, if wanted. Found that if you thought Windows 8/8.1 was hard to get used to, then there is a maze of stuff you will have to get used to in order to navigate around Windows 10, could not believe it. Had to go to settings in order to change/enable/disable certain aspects of the settings, where the control panel was, I have no idea, or is it just me, I took ages navigating around looking for it, I always found it invaluable within an OS. Disappointed with Internet explorer, they are working to replace I.E. with Spartan, so expected that as well. My PC has the latest software/hardware, on certain software, had to put it in compatibility mode for most software, but that's down to me and my Stardock/Sony/Adobe stuff, box kept coming up with incompatible problem. Would not let my Asus Phoebus sound card install, even in compatible mode. Motherboard drivers weren't too bad, graphics too. Most of this will be fixed when their partners and the rest deliver drivers when applicable, including software. It does fell good, but will sit on the fence perhaps till I know that gets fixed, probably a few months in from release.

Drivers were the problem with Vista, had to get rid of creative webcam and printer, for the life of me cannot remember what make it was ( printer), got a Logitech webcam and canon printer, both gave 32bit and 64bit drivers and problem was solved, but do remember Vista. Thanks for the link, I was going around in circles, I do like the control panel. The Spartan browser, apparently is going to be lightning fast and you will be able to put add-ons like in firefox, so they say. Heard of it a month ago, but has surfaced again. Loved XP, loved 7 and I do like 8.1, is it a viable upgrade, time will tell. Thanks again

It's going to replace IE, so I can only assume it will come in an update for other OS's. Hearing good things about how quick it will be and the customization of it. Micro$oft obviously want to finally challenge Firefox. I'm trying out Waterfox, it seems a bit more stable than Cyberfox. I mean how many people moved away from IE and went to another browser over the last few years.
