Windows 10
I've just read this on my BBC News Home page
Microsoft has revealed that Windows 10 will bring its voice-controlled assistant Cortana to PCs.
It also unveiled a headset that it said would one day project the operating system over views of the real world.
In addition, the firm announced that the OS upgrade would be offered free of charge for devices running Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Phone.
The offer, which is limited to the Windows 10's first year of release, may aid its adoption.
It marks a change in strategy from Microsoft's previous policy of charging for major updates, and could help avoid a repeat of the relatively slow uptake of Windows 8.

I've Cortana on the Nokia phone, its like a secretary but I don't use it much. Its just a gimmick to me. I wonder if my W7 will upgrade to 10.

Is it worth me getting rid of my Vista lappy and getting a Windows 8 lappy to get Windows 10 for free.
Or probably the new Windows 10 lappy's will be overall better.

The problem with a new OS is whether the programmes and peripherals work with it.

The problem with a new OS is whether the programmes and peripherals work with it. From the bit that I've read about W10, it seems that it's gonna become a lot more like the UI on a smartfone. Personally, I think that M/S are getting a bit desperate, they have made far too many cock-ups with Vista and W8, and it seems to me that more and more folks are looking at Macs these days! The thing is that M/S only really do softwear, whereas Apple do the softwear and the hardwear. Apple appear to me to concentrate more on upgrading their hardwear than pissing about with Mac OS X very much. Ok, they bring out upgrades regularly, but they don't much piss around with the basic UI. I'll stick with W7 until either support runs out, or disaster strikes. After that, it's 'gone baby gone' as far as Windows and me are concerned!

Been thinking along those lines myself John.At present have Dell desk top running Windows Vista.had it since 2007 and tbh I have had very few problems. I'm leaning towards a lap top as OH wants her spare bedroom back. Also looking for a decent spec tablet that has 3G(or 4G) If I let her have her bedroom back then she might release some funds for me..
