Ive seen those cable access points outside blocks of terraced houses, im assuming its done in one go for all the properties then they connect as and when. They ware done years ago like you say Unc. I remember when they connected ours they just buried the cable in the flower border and then nearer the house took up paving slabs, ran the cable underneath and then replaced the slabs. They then just drill the wall and brought the cable in and connected it to a small white box. As we were the first area in Sheffield to get it everyone got the job lot free for 6 months, sports, movies etc.Of course then the internet was just starting out for consumers. Exactly how they did mine Phil, made a very neat job of it too.

Dave, It was over £200 on ebuyer but £28 cheaper on Amazon so that's where it came from, ebuyer wouldn't price match it so that was a sale they lost. I was having problems understanding Chalky White on Boardwalk empire but I don't now with this soundbar. It will also bluetooth music off a device that's paired with it. FIL has a smart telly, surf the tinternet if you want on it. Like you say you have the same setup. Nice saving pal, very nice. The fella who plays Chalky White, was also Omar Little in 'The Wire'..... He's difficult to understand in that, cracking character actor though! Hmmmmm......I might have a look at on of those soundbars, a smaller one, but it needs to be wireless! My new 'Smart Puter' (snigger) View AttachmentThey certainly make a difference to the sound, you get a remote with it and I found it a pain cos I usually use the sky remote for volume, anyway I found out how to set the sky remote to work it as its independent of the telly volume. That set up of yours looks the business.

My line is underground but it is in a pipe so I suppose they could pull a fibre cable through.

Photoshop, you can't beat it. Nice work. Amazing how it sharpens everything up innit. I taught him how to do it, obviously!

Anyway, I'm gradually (very) finding out a bit more about how to use this freeview remote for the tv tuner. What I am impressed with, is the Windows Media Centre function that the tuner uses. I think that WMC comes pre-installed on W7 puters, but I had never used it because I didn't see the need. However, the Freeview menu using this, is far superior to the default one on my TV. One thing that puzzled me, is why some of the freeview channel numbers are duplicated in the list. The only thing that I can think of, is that it's because I'm within range of both the Notts and Brum transmittors, and both signals are as strong as each other. Any other drinkers use WMC for anything?

Any other drinkers use WMC for anything? Well I'm amazed and delighted that you've pointed me in the right direction Dave I have a TV tuner (USB type) on this desktop and, up to now, have only used the software that came with it. It has been OK, but was slow to start and teletext has been usually unavailable. So, following your favourable comments, I've just configured WMC (which I also had never used before) and am amazed at the difference. Live TV (all 119 channels) starts instantly from the desktop shortcut I created and the whole interface is much more user friendly. My TV tuner did come with a remote, but never used it, so I'll dig it out and give it a try. It's brilliant

Before sharpening, I had to remove quite a bit of 'digital noise' from the image (those multi-coloured, grainy bits in the darker areas). I used Topaz De-Noise (a Photoshop plug-in) which works brilliantly, as do all the Topaz plug-ins, to remove the noise and then sharpened it up a bit. It was actually nice to see that you had used a decent sized file in the first place, at a resolution of 300ppi, which makes it much easier to work with.

It does indeed come with 7, Just had a play and watched the sample movie but I don't have a TV tuner connected any more since I used one with XP and the signal wasn't up to much. As for the duplicate channels. Could be what you think. or it could be a software issue with the card. forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/additional-duplicate-freeview-channels-suddenly-picked-up.117183/

For the original, I did of course use my 'all singing and dancing' Nokia Asha 300 summat thingy. Obviously I knocked down the camera pixels from the max of 5mp to 2mp ..... just to give you a chance to practise like!

So this morning I picked my 3 monthly prescription up from the doc's... and then rocked up to Boots in town where the pharmacist asked me to come back after about 30mins to collect. Yep, apparently pills to control excessive good looks are hard to come by now. But no problemo, as I've become rather good at wasting time. I strolled down to the Lewis's store and had a look at their all in ones and desktops. The strange thing is, there isn't even one there with a built in tv tuner. Their is a 27" Sony which I could see had an aerial socket at the back, but that was all. Didn't appear to be a Mac that had it enabled either. Naturally the man came over to check me out, so I asked him. He didn't really know, just said that new machines appeared not to have them any more. I'm wondering if it's 'cos it's all so easy to live stream tv now, or if there's another reason. He told me summat else which surprised me, he said that when you buy a Mac, there's the option at 'set-up' to install Windows on either a partition, or use the whole drive. Gobsmacked!

That looks a nice bit of kit. But then again Bose do make good sound systems. As for PCs not having TV cards I think its because Tellies now have computers in to surf the web. The rolls have reversed.
