I can't remember Nob, (the exact order that is) but my point was that they leaped over W99. Bigger numbers are better for sales.

I wonder why this is going to be the last windows Joe, they must have summat up their sleeves to make money from a free OS. Sale of Apps, I read somewhere they are leasing the new office software. Maybe they are going that way.

Last I heard, Microsoft only had 11% of the market regarding machines with their OS that were accessing the internet. Could have something to do with it? But I'll go along with you- a hidden agenda. Reel 'em in and then when you've got them- milk them. It's the American way after all. I only really boot up the PC to watch DVDs these days. (no tele at banjo towers) Otherwise it's a tablet or smart 'phone. How times have changed!

Arrrrr Bejazus, it's the march of the Android, the force is with it. All part of Google's master plan to take over the world.
Hums theme from Star Wars.

Rats, you must already know that Android is a Linux distro. (As is iFoan and Mac OSx.) What's the betting that future M$ OSs won't be based on an open source "solution"?

Much as Windoze always has been (just like any other operating system- it's only a platform)

Nor Debian or BeOS etc, even my preferred Slackware to a lesser extent, but they are all still platforms insofar as they soon become boring until you put some of your own applications on. Without an operating system, Firefox (for example) is useless. It needs an OS to communicate with the machine code that the hardware understands.

Yea, but my point was with regard to the commercial aspect of the apps!

What is true is that there is no free lunch. If I've misunderstood your point then I concede, but it seems to me that there is no shortage of applications with commercial interests irrespective of platform. I think we're coming from different bases here, when you say platform I think you mean vehicle. I'll give up now because you're going to accuse me of nicking some of smudger's hooch when he's not looking! Been looking at a .177 Pro Sport today- mmmm!...

So my colleague at work tells me. He has 37 air rifles FFS. On the other hand, I've got some very expensive guitars, but that alone doesn't make me a better player. It does give you confidence and enthusiasm though so hence the Pro Sport!

He has all those (mostly rescued and restored junk) from Bisley boot sales. I admire his skills, but the authorities would roll their eyes if they saw the Allen Armoury! You have a classy brace. Walk softly, carry a big stick- No contest! End of thread derailment?
