For any of you out there, who like me are victims of PC, don't neglect to keep checking your PSA even when the medics don't bother too. I have been on annual checks for the last 4 years, but have been getting them done more frequently for my own peace of mind. Good job too, as mine has gone from 0.4 to 16.8 in the last 4 months. Looks like it's back to the hormone injections

Pieces of Eight in the fight against Ca cells Tiny pieces of gold 'boost brain cancer therapy' in lab mmmm... this should be in the dementia thread = its a bit low down here - but who knows till u try it at least once... Minuscule pieces of gold may help improve treatment for aggressive brain cancers, according to research published in the journal Nanoscale. Scientists engineered extremely small golden spheres, coating them with a chemotherapy drug. When the tiny particles were infused into the centre of tumour cells, the cancer stopped replicating and many diseased cells died. Researchers hope it may provide a way to target difficult-to-treat cancers. www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-28754152

Prostate cancer patients 'unjustly' denied drug hMen with prostate cancer will be refused a drug that can extend life by five years unless they go through a 'painful' bout of chemotherapy first, the NHS drugs rationing body has ruled, which experts have branded 'unjust' and a 'kick in the teeth'. The drug abiraterone is currently only available on the NHS after patients have been through chemotherapy, and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has now ruled that it cannot be used before chemo. Experts criticized the decision, saying the funding formula used by Nice must be overhauled. yes v pricey but = same as full care home -- £3K a month www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/11033357/Prostate-cancer-patients-unjustly-denied-drug.html

Botox could halt stomach cancer Botox injections could provide an effective new treatment for stomach cancer, research has shown. The rejuvenating anti-wrinkle treatment used by numerous celebrities slows tumour growth by blocking nerve signals that stimulate cancer stem cells. In laboratory tests, Botox - made from the toxin of botulism bacteria - proved ''highly effective'' at suppressing gastric cancer in mice. The promising results have led to the launch of an early clinical trial involving human patients with stomach cancer in Norway. btw somewhere Im sure I read its possible this may nuke hard PCa ---mo41 www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/11047290/Botox-could-halt-stomach-cancer.html

Merck & Co pens prostate cancer pact with Advaxis Merck & Co has signed an immunotherapy pact with Advaxis for prostate cancer involving its high-profile PD-1 checkpoint inhibitor pembrolizumab. The collaboration will evaluate Advaxis' Lm (Listeria monocytogenes)-LLO cancer immunotherapy ADXS-PSA as monotherapy and in combination with pembrolizumab in a Phase I/II study of patients with previously treated metastatic, castration-resistant prostate cancer. No financial details have been disclosed and Advaxis will fund the study, while both companies will collaboratively oversee the conduct of the study, which is planned to begin in early 2015. www.pharmatimes.com/Article/14-08-25/Merck_Co_pens_prostate_cancer_pact_with_Advaxis.aspx

Tomatoes 'important in prostate cancer prevention' Eating tomatoes may lower the risk of prostate cancer, research suggests. Men who consume more than 10 portions of tomatoes each week reduce their risk by about 20%, according to a UK study. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide, with 35,000 new cases and around 10,000 deaths in the UK every year. Cancer experts recommend eating a balanced diet which is high in fruit and vegetables and low in red and processed meat, fat and salt. www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-28950093

Norfolk based scientists are helping to lead the fight against prostate cancer by becoming the first in the world to sequence the DNA of the disease. Colin Cooper, professor of cancer genetics at the UEA, said the N&N had become the first general hospital in the world to screen prostate cancer patients and analyse their genes to find the cause of their disease. www.edp24.co.uk/news/health/norfolk_leading_the_way_in_prostate_cancer_research_1_3747571

Prostate Cancer Organoids Provide New Tool for Evaluating Therapies An international team of researchers led by Memorial Sloan Kettering has created a new tool that can be employed in the search for personalized cancer therapies in prostate cancer: tiny formations called organoids. The study of organoids — three-dimensional structures about a millimeter in size composed of cells grouped together and spatially arranged like an organ or tissue — is a rapidly growing field in biology. Traditionally, cell lines have been one of the main resources for evaluating potential new cancer drugs in the lab. Cell lines are populations of cells derived from a patient — such as a cancer cell — that can be grown indefinitely in culture. www.mskcc.org/blog/prostate-organoids-provide-new-tool-evaluating-therapies
