I've run SFC /Scannow a couple of times and its found corrupt files maybe give that a run Bob. Have you tried a larger number than 20%. SFC /Scannow fond nothing. Moved the slider to 40%. will see if that works. Do you have a disk manager that auto defrags Bob? Have a read of this.

Not worked. Restore points gone, but still set at 20%. could Windows Defender be deleting them?

To be honest Bob I really think 10 is still buggy. Just after posting in the charity thread I got a BSOD about USB drivers.

Greetings Bob, To save me typing, have a look at this thread ..... forum.webuser.co.uk/showthread.php?t=144597&page=2I've posted my opinions regarding the mysterious random removal of Restore Points ... it's a common problem. Don't assume it's always down to your own machine. I reckon that it may well be at least partly down to Microsoft. If you also use another dedicated AV program in addition to Windows Defender (such as Avast), you could try disabling Defender then try a new restore point after a reboot ... though it doesn't seem likely that Defender is the culprit. I see that you've already tried sfc /scannow, so as a long shot also try chkdsk per ... Right-click on drive [C:] >> Properties >> Tools tab >> Error checking >> Check button >> Apply >> OK Spit

Thanks Spit. I was thinking of trying Restore Point Creator what Jal suggested. Will that work if I had problems with Win 10? When you put the Win 10 repair disc in, you get the option to restore to an earlier point, would windows use Restore Point Creator or it's own?

Hi Bob, I doubt that using a third-party restore point creator/manager would make any difference. Your problem is that W10 is wrongly removing your restore points on reboot, so you obviously have a bug/corruption/missing registry key somewhere in your system that prevents your manual restore points from sticking. However, there's no harm in trying ... but watch out for unwanted "extras" ... always use the Custom install. Are your Microsoft generated points sticking OK ... and only your own manual ones disappearing? Have a look at this thread ... there are a few things that you could still try ..... Fix: System Restore not working in Windows 10/8/7 www.thewindowsclub.com/system-restore-not-working-windowsQuotes from Link
2. Disable your antivirus or security software and then try to create a system restore point. 3. Boot in Safe Mode and see if you create a system restore point or restore to a prior restore point. Many a times, non-Microsoft services or Drivers can interfere with the proper functioning of System Restore. Alternatively you could also execute a Clean Boot and see if you are able to get system restore working. 8. Type Services.msc in Start Menu Search Box, hit Enter. Make sure that the Volume Shadow Copy & Task Scheduler & Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider Service is Running and set on Automatic. If the Status of System Restore Service is Not Started, Start it. Also set it on Automatic if it is not. A reboot may be required. Re-confirm again, and now try. Work your way through the suggestions in my link .... hopefully you may get lucky. On a few occasions in the past, I too (and many other folk) had a few bugs that couldn't be readily fixed. They cropped up after the Anniversary Update. For example - My long list of saved Run commands were continually automatically deleted on reboot ... my Windows Update service stopped installing updates, and this was preventing later updates from also installing. I had an EaseUS Todo full Image backup created just before the AU, and when I restored to this time, the bugs were fixed. My Run commands and WUs then worked OK ... with WU then reinstalling the AU plus subsequent updates. If you're now cheesed-off, you might prefer to soldier on by relying on your regular Image backups until the next major upgraded build due in the Spring ... and hope that this new build fixes your problem. Good Luck, Spit
