Roy, I would second what Dave (Ratae) has said about CCleaner. If you're really concerned, from the Cleaner page (sweeping brush icon) top left, choose 'Analyse', at bottom left, rather than 'Clean Now'. That way you can see exactly what CCleaner proposes to remove, before you actually decide, or not, to run the cleaner. Personally, I have used it for so many years and have complete faith in it's abilities and capabilities, that I always just run the cleaner. It has never removed anything it shouldn't.

Thanks Alan, Rats had already convinced me nothing would go wrong. I thought I would give BT solution a go first by changing passwords, they seem to think I will have no problem now. Roy

Roy, where have you been when you logged into your email account. In my opinion an email account is usually compromised when using an unsecured wifi hotspot.
So, if you have been using a wifi enabled mobile device, in possibly a pub/airport, shopping precinct etc to check your emails, then that is the likely source of the hacking.
Even a suspicious security conscious old goat like me only checks my emails via my home wifi network!

Roy if you are now on Talk Talk do BT still allow their email address, I always thought you lost it unless the ISP was taken over, I started on freeserve many moons ago but ended up on TalkTalk via Tiny, then Tiscali.

Dave, All I know is when I threatened to leave Tiscali they said do you want to lose your email address, maybe just a threat to keep me, but why let someone use their server when they don't pay.

No idea Nob, maybe the folks at Wanadoo are just nicer people than those at Tiscali. Did they tell you that you would lose that email addy, or were they just asking if you wanted to keep it after you left them?

"Why let someone use their server..." Well, Hotmail, gMail, Yahoo mail and gawd knows how many others seem to manage somehow. I know they're all web based, but bandwidth is still bandwidth. They're just jumped up bullying thugs. IMO of course...

Lose it, like Joe says bullies, but I stayed and went through the transition cos I was satisfied it suited me.

For sure, but the traffic has a cost associated with it. The web based client software consumes bandwidth and there is no free lunch. Moreover, they can't release that email address to anyone else. There would be data protection issues. I know someone at work that migrated to Virgin from BT (or maybe it was t'other way around) several years ago. Sure he can't send pop3 mail through his old provider, but they still allow web based use of his old email address, even to send mail. Advertising is the paymaster for so-called "free' web based email bandwidth. That's the key.

The only gadget I got for emailing is my desk top PC, so I only send and receive email via my home.

BT was my first ever provider of broadband as I was using them for my home telephone at the time, when I changed from BT to TalkTalk I kept using my BT email address. I believe you can get a BT email address through Yahoo, something like that. Well they have not said I got to stop using it.
