wife's laptop (W8) is very slow to boot up and often freezes. Would there be any sort of fix via fletch's link to the MS Fix It centre to address this problem? I haven't mastered C & P on my new iPad to reproduce the link here.

Have you got too many programs trying to start up at the beginning, as that will slow the start up if you have.
Go to Start - All Programs - Run (If not visible RUN might be in with Accessories) - In the box type msconfig click OK - Click the Startup Tab and see how many programs you've got with a tick in the square beside them. If there's quite a lot, remove the tick from the ones you don't need to start when the Laptop startsup
I've got 5 - WinPatrol - Avast Antivirus - Malwarebytes - 2 Nvidia ones

will check that out when she's finished what she's doing. Meantime, she tells me that the freezing while she is working, is more of a problem than the slow start because it keeps interrupting the work in hand jal.

Does it freeze then carry on like the processor is overworked, or does it freeze and it needs resetting.

It freezes while she is working and the only thing she can do to get going is to restart the computer.

Tried the link but got "Document not found (404)" fletch. Anyway my wife has a big task on the computer and has asked that the 'fix' be postponed meantime. When I do get access, would it be worth trying out your MS Fix It Centre link or would that be expecting too much?

Well I would remove the tick in the box beside those below and just leave the security ones on.
1 Catalyst Control Centre. 2 Epson Status Monitor 3 3 Facebook Installer(2).
It doesn't stop them working it just stops them coming on at startup or if you have WinPatrol you can put them on a delayed startup to come on after your PC's started up

Is there a download. For WhoCrashed? Can't see one. Click on Nobs post Whocrashed and then on Downloads at the top of the page and then Free Downloads and work your way down the list to the heading Crashed Analyst Tools and you'll find the Download Free Home Edition there

No probs found but suggestion that, as I think fletch said, could be a driver update requirement.
