Hi, I am having an issue with ports:
My CCTV requires port 18004 to be open to allow me to access Live feed from my CCTV system. This has worked in the past.
I am unable now to view my CCTV LIve feed from my wireless devices. I went into my router (Netgear DGN1000 supplied by Virgin) settings, and opened port 18004
But when I use canyouseeme it says the port is closed.
I find this strange, and am not sure where to go with this.
KGuard support tell me that is why I can't see the Live CCTV feed on my phone, and Virgin "don't support port forwarding".
I have reset ip addresses, rebooted the router, closed the port on the router, then "reopened it".
Anybody any ideas, or suggestions?
Thanks

In that case, I didn't have port 18004 open, and once I opened this in the router, everything worked. The difference here is that I have gone through the exact same process to open the ports on the router, and they are not showing open, when in November they WERE showing open (with canyouseeme.org) This is leading me to think there might be a problem with my router. I contacted my IP (Virgin), and they will sell me a new router (at a price £50+ as mine is out of warranty), but it will be the same unit (Netgear DGN1000), also checked the firmware version on my router... it is the latest, most up to date there is. Netgear have long ago stopped supporting this router anyway, so there is unlikely to be any further updates. I could have taken out a new 12 month contract, but getting an obsolete router is not really where I want to go. So it looks as if I'll have to look for a new router... I need a new adsl modem (non cable) router - any ideas? Thanks

Hi, No response from the port forwarding forums to date, but I have an update, but it's not what I wanted. I have bought a new Netgear DGN2200v4 router, and have spent about 3 hours on "on line chat" with Netgear, after I initially set it up because the ports were showing open in the router but NOT open with canyouseeme.org. (just the same as with the old router)
Really don't know where else to go now.

There isnt a firewall setting on the router is there? You need the firewall in the router turned on.

I have used this guide to check, but hopefully Netgear support (with whom I spen 3 hours on "live Chat" over the last few days) have got it right. However, I read here that port checkers are not that reliable, as Netgear Routers have stealth features built in. If I have missed anything...? However, the proof is whether my iPhone/ipad will connect to the DVR and they won't, so something is definitely not right. I have tried using "Shilds up", and was advised to go into the router settings and try to open a low number port, so I can check it's showing open on Shields up (which only does the low numbers). I opened port 100 in the router, then tried shilds up. The port 100 didn't show "open", didn't show open with canyouseeme, so I'm probably more confused now than ever!

Hi, OK - I have spent a bit of time looking through he links, and watched the You Tube video.
By the look of it, I have done everything as I should have. This is born out by my conversations with Netgear support, and conversations I have had with guys in Maplins. (Maplins supplied the cctv system. Both guys in Maplins (2 different branches) were knowledgable about this, being enthusiasts, and both told me (when I told them what I had already done) that is what they would have advised me to do anyway. Neither could furnish me with a solution though....
I do have one further thing to try, but it's a long shot.
Whilst putting my old DGN1000 in my "box of bits" in the attic, I came across a brand new DLink router (supplied by Virgin media a few years ago. It has neve been used, because (I forgot) they actually sent me 2 routers - the DGN1000 AND the Dlink!!!. I used the DGN1000, but the Dlink has never been out of the box.
If I set up the Dlink, and it doesn't help, that is 3 routers that I have tried. (Remember Netgear have been through all the settings with me, and even enabled DMZ (which Maplins tell me opens ALL ports to the specified ip address I have reserved and set as static for my DVR).
I have to say, I'm not holding out any great hopes for this, as I can't believe 2 routers are knackered, especially as one is brand new anyway.
I still need to get to the bottom of this (It's now getting personal !!).
If this all fails, I will be contacting Virgin media (again) to get them to check the ports. (but then I haven't great confidence that they will be a lot of help in such technical matters) but we shall see.
Thanks

Its got to be a firewall problem or the IP your putting in the app isn't the right one.

Firewalls... I have tried by briefly turning off the windows firewall My iPad im guessing won't have a firewall, so that leaves a firewall in the router, which is supposedly open for the required ports,
I have had this working in the past, and as I use the IP address assigned by virgin, and change it when required. I have ip finder apps to tell me what it is, and copy and paste into the cctv apps.
Would my ISp have a firewall anywhere?
Is it one in the router?
Thanks

I can't see how it worked once then stopped. Very strange.
