Water meter Steve, read it wrong I thought you were on about smart meters, I was on the old system where the bill was assessed by the property tax. So I decided to go to the meter when the kids had moved on, the bill for water usage came right down, I use Yorkshire water as domestic and Anglian for sewage, Yorkshire water sorts the parts out, they do indeed read it twice a year, my bill is £22 a month for water all in. Not too shabby from what I was paying based on band D.

We're band "E" nob despite only having two bedrooms. They wouldn't listen to reason. Estate agents drove past and "valued" us. I used an online calculator and even with moderate use we are set to pay more. I know I do go on a bit, but there's no rose tinted specs here Mate.

You shouldn't pay more on a meter Steve? I certainly pay much less than being assessed on the property tax. Band E up here and you would have a lovely house, get the VW packed and relocate.

Hi Nob & Steve
Anglian Water have just changed all the water meters to Smart water meters.
What we pay is just the same £22, but you can see how much a day you use & the cost per day + other things
But as you say it's cheaper having a water meter
We are in a 2 bedroomed bungalow in Band B.

Hydrangeas nob- thirsty little bar stewards. Nowt worse than a brown tinged wilting hydrangea. Take them out of the equation and we're set to be quids in. Taking a detached view, the water companies would like us to grass our gardens over because grass always comes back. They'd frown at concreting because of run off of ground water into drains. They want to have their cake and munch it. I don't care really, I'm not much of a gardener, I just don't want to be watching every drop (just like going around turning off lights or shuffling the thermostat settings). I don't know about anyone else but I preferred the old rateable value system even if I was over valued and paying more. More than what? They dress up the situation by telling you you'll save. Ha! Of course you just cannot please some folk, and I'm a card-carrying Meldrew!

JJ we might be getting a smart meter then?? hows that work mine is in a hole at the top of the cul-de-sac, doesn't it need power?
Talking about gardens, I got a blackbird quite tame last year, I fed it dried mealy bugs. He would come looking when I was having a cold one in he garden, they had a nest full of babies, then one morning I heard him scream and our resident sparrowhawk had done the job of feeding his babies. I'm starting again this year with some more blackies.
Hi Nob
The man just came & swapped them all, then they sent us a letter saying it would be operational in about 2 weeks time & to download the App to see how everything works and what benefits it had over the old meter.
The meter is in a pit on the pavement at the end of our drive.
It must work on some sort of signal from a receiver in the pit the meters in.

We've been cultivating a blackbird for years nob. We recognise him by the vaguely lighter patch on his breast. The only time it looked like a success was when they nested in the rambling rose I grew over the drive gates (at the behest of the CPO) after a burglary attempt, then out of the blue, a raptor plunged through all the thorns and got a carry-out. I read somewhere years ago that with all the ducks lined up in a row, the life expectancy of Turdus Turdus is twenty one years which seems a long time for a little bird but who knows.

My guess it's some variant of Near Field technology, a bit when you rob an item from a shop and the alarm goes off as you exit? There's probably a passive antenna which will be resonant with the meter reader's tackle? That was my concern with me having relatively strong rafio frequency emissions which will couple into anything given the chance (like next door's alarm, garage door, WiFi porch camera and so on and on and on etc.)

Flybe has ceased trading, people told as they were packing to fly in the early hours of this morning. Their last flight into Doncaster was a couple of years ago.

Turns out that The Military were handed responsibility for handling the illegal immigration issue some 8-9 months ago, and during the last year 40,000 have completed the crossing. What would happen if there was an actual invasion?

If Labour were in they would welcome the Ruskies with open arms.
