hi pierre, reg paths can be different between 32 and 64bit machines. also, default" Reg_SZ can sometimes refer to uninstalled software, unless there was a slight detour from the suggested reg path. anyway have a look in the link for a bit more info. disable java update key

Pierre, should show Java in the left hand panel (where all your software is located). If it says Java, just right click on it and there should be an option to delete it.

Merci Phil, and Monsieur Le Post. Maybe my problem lies in the fact that I uninstalled Java in Windows last week, though with some difficulty.I had to use Revo. Ergo I cannot access the Java Control Panel.Nor do I have --to my knowledge---Chrome My problem is that I get, from time to time,a request to update Java regardless of the fact I don't now have Java. The update thingy is more of a 30 second nuisance than a crisis

The update thingy is more of a 30 second nuisance than a crisis hi pierre As the java applet is now removed, its more to do with sites identifying the browser, java disabled or dated. plus, java comes in more then one version and can be a plugin on several browsers. check your browsers for addons and remove. See the, -how to- link for disabling the update message in startup. check out whether its there or not, www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-Java-Update-Notifications does the browser/s require updating, as this can prompt a message when visiting sites online. they prompt the user so you can view their site as intended.
