Hmmmm..on my puter, Java is a FF plug-in, ages ago I disabled it, but set the options tab to "ask to activate" if needed. To me, this seemed the best option available. Of course, some folks don't have the sense to use FF as their default browser, some folks are beyond help!

I understand that Java is fast approaching "the exit door", (as am I!) but since I need it for my DLNA server, Serviio, to run I have to put up with it's idiosyncrasies. I have tried to hog tie and hobble it into submission but the damn thing keeps telling me it's out of date and there is a newer version available. When I finally succumb to it's pestering, it tells me i'm up to date....Grrrr! Today I found this Clicky which I'm hoping will sedate it so that I can get some peace!

Or you could install Winpatrol and turn the Java updater off from running at startup using that. Plus all the other benefits from letting the dog guard you.

To stop the Java updates go, in regedit, to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
And delete the Java Update key

following uncleub's link, confirms that Java is gone from my browser. ...Don't get me started on iTunes! I just don't trust myself with alanrwood's reg edit solution, the registry scares me!! I'll give the instructions on the "timo" web site that I found some time to see if that has worked and will probably invest in the dog as well! Or you could install Winpatrol and turn the Java updater off from running at startup using that. Plus all the other benefits from letting the dog guard you. Thereby hangs the tail...as they used to say!.....Why did "they" used to say that!.... Thus far I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to turn the little sod off!

java was an issue for me some weeks back. chrome has its own and yet i was getting a message until i realised it was for IE. I also have FF and it was getting silly as i downloaded the wrong version. in the end, I disabled it as I was using chrome and FF. anyway, as said java is heading for a deadend disable java

Thanks nob, I'll visit the Petshop next week after I've given the current attempt a chance.
Hi postman, we've met in a previous life over at CA, this site wouldn't let me have a space, underscore or hyphen in my username (six h)and it just doesn't look right without some form of seperation!
