Bestest friend I have both C. Cleaner and Win Patrol installed, Scotty is actually running at this minute, but I always think of start up menu as msconfig and that needs a downloaded application to configure it but now I know there's other ways of working the start menuSmudger my old mucker....if by putting 'start menu' as two seperate words, in bold type, you are somehow trying to suggest that I have made a mistake in my description of the relevant menu. Then bestest pal, I suggest that you look at the tabs that I've mentioned, in the two programs that were referred to, and see there how the menu is described there! Harrumph! Peter wonders what's the best cure for bestest friend's persecution complex?

Send it asap, my complex is getting worse by the minute! Ratarse the persecuted

I suggest that you look at the tabs that I've mentioned, in the two programs that were referred to, and see there how the menu is described there! In C Cleaner it is just Startup and in WinPatrol it is startup programsStart Menu is a different file altogether. www.ralphthegeek.com/startup-in-start-menu.htmNow you see why Start Menu is in bold letters because I don't like seeing my bestest friend confused.

Smudger..from that link that you've posted. " Editing this area is easy to do. The Startup folder is located in the Start Menu.
Click your start button. Under Programs (all Programs in XP) look for the folder called Startup.
All items in the Startup Folder will start when your computer is started or when you log into your program."
Also, in the W7 "All Programs" menu, there is NO 'Start Folder' There is however...a 'Startup' folder which is completely different to the ones that I mentioned in Ccleaner and WinPatrol...........Kabische. BTW......where's my Glenfiddich?

2.100.88.161 your back in Belfast, with TT looks like your sorted. Definitely not sorted nob, it is now back in San Jose, Cal. I can get it back to Belfast by unplugging the PC from the telephone overnight, maybe a shorter time would do the same but 15 mins doesn't change anything. About 10 hrs later it reverts to San Jose which makes me think there is some malware on my HD but none of my security progs can find it. Any easy solutions come to mind that don't include the word wipe?

What 'real time' security software do you have running Peter.

Certainly sounds as if Peter has been taken over by a "bot net".

Certainly sounds as if Peter has been taken over by a "bot net". Dinky this looks a distinct possibility so how do I deal with it?

What 'real time' security software do you have running Peter. TalkTalk Security:-aka F-Secure. Win Patrol, C Cleaner pro, Phil those are the ones that run all the time. I've others but they are manually activated scans.

Dinky I do use Spybot and delete what it finds but on reading your link my PC's speed is the same as it is normally and your link says if it is a spybot it would be reduced to a crawl. Surely if it was using my PC to attack another PC my mail prog would show evidence of sent mail?

Peter did you try Open a command prompt and type: “ipconfig /release” Then ipconfig /renew Then see what IP you have then reboot and see what IP you have then. Nob....you don't really expect to make a suggestion to Smudger, and then him to reply, telling you whether or not he tried your suggestion..........do you? Pfft......when has he ever done that?
