Well folks, I recently had to have a spell in the hospital. Since discharged but with an unwelcome addition. Tested negative for covid on admission, but when I came out a few days later i went down with it or as I call it "the chinese bat-sh*t virus. I gave it to al he family. now we are all clear. I suppose the message is DO NOT GO INTO HOSPITAL!

Acronyms.
One of the scourges of modern life. I'd put emojis in there too but even I am guilty of concatenating some symbols now and then. (Not menu based cutesy colourful physog. blobs though.)
ROFL is ubiquitous and you've seen IIRC and ISTR. There's squintillions of them. You've no doubt seen TL;DR. I had to look that one up.
Has anyone stopped to consider the acronym for "That Is To Say"? This was the product of a half asleep hippy mind in bed this morning. I had to re-run the initials to confirm. I'm 99.9999999% sure that it must have been used or at least recorded elsewhere because that's just how it is on the world wide viper's pit, but I've never seen it up 'til now. We could start a new one right here on The Squatters!

Has anyone any experience of these rapid (economical?) heaters which are advertised as able to warm a whole room in minutes ?

Scam. "Ye canna change the lozzafizzics". Anything that defies the first law of thermodynamics is basically feldegarbe. In essence, any structure has a coefficient of thermal transmittance ("U" value) through its various components (glass, tiles, bricks, cavities, insulation, floorboards and so on.) Together they correspond indirectly to a total heat loss (or gain!) from (or to) a structure dependent upon the temperature difference from outside to the intended internal temperature, and unless improvement to insulation or multiple glazing is carried out, that is what you've got to work with. If for a building that amounts to let's say, 5.8 kilowatts, putting heat in by way of a 500 Watts doo-hickey is like p1ss1ng in the wind. What it will do is make you move away if you're sitting too close. If you're sitting and typing away at a desk and you're feeling the cold, one of these will help you but it won't heat the room in the way being claimed. It's only my opinion but you'd be better off with a Delonghi oil filled radiator set to it's lowest output. Others are available but that brand has a thermal tunnelling design which improves the efficiency somewhat. Go for the olde worlde rotary timer variant, because that way you could leave it switched on at the unit and use an Alexa type of smart switch to kick it into life on the way home from the airport. You can't do that with a microprocessor controlled "digital" variant. As they say- "YMMV". youtu.be/sPnLnk35XsY でつ e&oe ...

Well Jeff Beck is real gone. Sleepy John would have acknowledged this so I'll do it on his behalf. Jeff Beck was a stunning guitar player. Forget Hi Ho Silver Lining. youtu.be/howz7gVecjEI like his nod to lost days in smokey clubs right at the end of the clip. Pretty much the whole Ronnie Scott's gig(s) are amazing. He always gave way to the talent that shared a stage with him, and was probably one of the most humble possibly even self-deprecating performers I can think of off hand. I can tell you that his style is basically impossible to emulate. That alone made him unique. Rest in peace JB. でつ e&oe ...

Thank goodness for YouTube so that his music can be listened to and appreciated for years to come. R I P Jeff !! When I was a teen I used to go to a Community Centre a bus ride away from home. They would book all the up and coming groups before they were famous and The Yardbirds were one of them. Of course I didn't know then how famous the members would become. Just happy memories of days gone by

I don't suppose you would remember whether JB was playing with them on the evening G? He was a "passing through" member after all but played on some of their most notable recordings a such as that one and "Over Under Sideways Down" too. Seen there playing a Guild 12 string guitar. I have a Guild 12 string- a Tacoma, USA built F512. It's a larger bodied instrument than that one and it feels like a grand piano thrumming on your lap!
