How strange Nob.He was a very affable and erudite chap, and a great contributor to these pages too. I do have his email address which he sent me when he moved from AOL,but I would not want to contact him in case there was bad news. I was surprised to note that we still have members listed who have passed away. Grandma Norm disappeared too without a "by your leave" Is this a Scottish thing ?

Hmmmm, you may have a point there Pete. Sometime back Al accused/congratulated me on being a 'world class cynic'.... I naturally took this as a compliment and kept bringing his remark up, wearing it as a badge of honour like. However, it sometimes seems to me that the Scots don't do banter and piss taking, they appear to take it all personally. The Welsh are a bit that way too, though strangely, you Paddy types seem to enjoy it and give as good as you get. Mind you, yer Paddies are famous for yer sense of humour, no-one tells an Irish joke like an Irishman. I hope I didn't upset him, I liked Al and his piccies were brilliant. Hmmmm...probably all my fault again.

Yep - Alan is a good lad ... affable and erudite as you say. He has recently been in contact with me ... he's not currently travelling about. Regarding the banter question with Scots ..... now that would depend on whether the banter was perceived as friendly and genuine ... or mean-spirited. Personally, I think that I'm well-known for my "banter", but I react accordingly if I suspect the latter. Och weel ... So I'm now the only Scot remaining here to educate and civilise my English brothers ... so be it. Spit

Oh dear, Nige phoned in about an hour ago to say he was doubtful for Question Time tonight. He's stuck in traffic on the A1, there's been a traffic accident. Apparently QT is recorded at 8.30pm and then broadcast as we know. Tuffy but that's just fate
