Y'see fellas, if yer had only listened to yer old pal Rats and used LastPass. Bestest friend as usual you are talking double Dutch to me. If I had used Lastpass to generate my TalkTalk password and it was logged in TalkTalk's database any hackers breaching TalkTalk's web site you say wouldn't be able to read my stored Lastpass generated password. If so please explain why?

Mail off TT its not as bad as they first thought, they didn't access passwords and the bank details are encrypted and part is missing so no funds can be taken. It will be interesting to find out who did it.

I haven't heard a dickie bird from them. Then again, I'm an old Pipex customer, so perhaps they absorbed my business with the take-over and it was better protected than hoi-poloi. Nah- that would be too much to expect!

Same here. Pipex>Nildram>Opal>TalkTalk (probably not in that order). No one asked me if it was OK! I've always had good service though. I have (had?) a "business" account with a 10:1 contention ratio which also offered genuinely unlimited (ie: no "fair use policy") usage and a fixed IP. I still have the fixed IP, but I wouldn't gamble on the usage clause and it doesn't seem possible to establish beyond uncertainty. I'd been very satisfied until they hiked my charges by about 33% last year. Trouble is you don't want to lose your old email addy so ir's s form of blackmail and when I get nuisance calls from them I let 'em have both barrels. Makes me feel a bit better! Thanks for the heads-up Nob because a rudimentary search on the global oracle left me uninformed.

It will be interesting to find out who did it. I also had a mail from TT this am nob, copied below. We know it’s been a worrying and frustrating time since Wednesday’s cyber attack on our website. We’re doing everything we can to get to the bottom of what happened as soon as possible and to keep you updated. Our investigations are currently showing the following: • The number of customers affected and the amount of data potentially stolen is smaller than originally thought. Our website was attacked, but our core systems weren’t and remain secure. • On its own, none of the data that may have been accessed could be used to leave you financially worse off. • We don’t store unencrypted credit or debit card data on our site, so any card details which may have been accessed have the 6 middle digits blanked out. For example, it would appear as 012345XXXXXX6789. This means it can’t be used for financial transactions. • No My Account passwords have been accessed. • No banking details were taken that you won’t already be sharing with people when you write a cheque or give to someone so they can pay money into your account. We will continue investigating and promise to keep you updated as we know more. In the meantime, we strongly encourage that you: • Sign up to your free credit reporting service using this code: TT231. We have partnered with Noddle, one of the leading credit reference agencies, to offer 12 months of credit monitoring alerts for all customers. You can find out more at www.talktalk.co.uk/secure. • Stay vigilant - TalkTalk will NEVER call customers and ask you to provide personal details or passwords. Please take all steps to check the true identity of any organisation that calls requesting personal information. If you have any doubts, please call us on 0800 083 2710 or 0141 230 0707. We are sorry for the concern this week’s attack has caused, but want to reassure you that we are doing everything possible to keep your information safe.
For more information, please visit: www.talktalk.co.uk/secure.According to The Sunday Times 10,000s of TT subscribers are quitting and some are even suing TT www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/news/uk_news/National/article1624162.eceWill TT survive or were the subscribers too hasty in their condemnation and could have waited for the full picture. I've been with TT for years, on a good deal, and I want to continue with them so just keeping my fingers crossed.

Well, a dDOS attack implies "renting" thousands of compromised machines world wide on a time basis, and in the darker reaches of the interweb that costs serious money. Hence having paid out, the gits go for bigger institutions where they stand to gain to offset outlay.
He can't have been that smart because he must have left a trail. Everything's trackable with sufficient will. Just another script kiddie that struck lucky I expect.
I still haven't heard a peep out of TalkTalk. Hmmm.

Hmmm...I can confidently predict that he isn't a relative of Smudgers. The only denial of service old Smudger knows about is when he tries to get served at his local pub where a sign says .. "Pikies not welcome here."
