Thats probably the difference, different sound chip..Try and find updated motherboard drivers. Any ideas on where and what to look for Nob 'cos I don't know exactly what the motherboard 'comes under'. Belarc for my Toshiba says under 'Main circuit board' ..."Toshiba Equium L20" But that's just the model afaik!

Found this on another forum dave you have to go into device manager remove the sound devices (or unknown devices, or both) restart the laptop cancel the found new hardware wizard install the realtek drivers using the exe (not the inf) restart let it detect (if you uninstalled too many things in step one) and off you go the trick is YOU MUST DO ALL OF THIS AS THE LOCAL ADMINISTRATOR not as someone local on the machine who has admin rights, but actually log on as Administrator and not administrator for the domain, you must log on as administrator, you must log on to the local machine.

Have you tried SIW? (System Information for Windows) I think there's more detail. www.gtopala.com/Bob.

AC97 Audio or something like that Dave, try Integrated peripherals or similar. You should have the option to enable and disable.

Cracked it! Okey dokey fellas here's what it was! I downloaded the first lot of drivers from the fujitsu site after putting in the laptop specs,model..op system etc! I've been back to the fujitsu site to see if there was any more info, and realised that this model (lifebook E8020D) was listed TWICE! It seems that for some reason this model had an option on two different makes of sound and vid cards. One was ATI (the one I'd already installed) and the other was Intel! On this lappy (unlike mine) there was no sticker telling which graphics card was onboard.Anyway...I've downloaded the Intel drivers and installed them and 'BINGO'....Sweet as a nut! Thanks fellas for all of your advice.I'm not expecting any thanks from my pal...only insults for not loading the proper drivers first time!
