Latest.....success! I've finally got my pal 'up and running' with the 'acquired' lappy.I wiped the hdd and burnt an iso disc with xp pro on it and managed to install it! He's so chuffed that a nice bottle of Scotlands' finest has found its way to my private stock! A million thanks to all who helped especially Sime (Jack Hackett) for all of his help, advice and encouragement! Top bloke!

Taking ages to load today.Timed out twice already! Anyway,my mate has reported back with a couple of problems! 1/ Cannot play any flash video on the web (utube etc).I got him to d/load the latest version of Adobe flash player v9 but the message comes up "To view vids on this site you need the latest version of adobe flash blah blah!) Do you think that this could be a corrupted download. He d/loaded from 'softpedia' site? 2/ No sound at all from the laptop. He looked in the control panel at sounds and audio devices and this said that there were no audio devices on this machine! In device manager under 'sound vid and game etc' it shows all of the codecs and drivers as ok! Any suggestion folks!

I thinks it will be a driver issue for both graphics and sound..

I thinks it will be a driver issue for both graphics and sound.. The flash is now sorted with a new download of adobe flash.I suspect that your correct Nob.My suspicion is that the wrong drivers for a fujitsu lappy were on the xp pro disc, but I'd like someone to advise me on that!

I would look for new drivers, run belarc and see whats inside.
In device manager look at the sound device properties then drivers..then update drivers..let it search the internet for them..
If its not that then I suspect the sounds not set up..

Ok..my pals brought the puter round for me to look at.I've been to the Fujitsu site and downloaded and installed the audio drivers but there is still no sound. In the 'sounds and audio devices' properties in control panel it shows 'No audio device'. I have run Belarc and in display and multimedia it shows 'nothing found' In my 'Device Manager' 'Sound, video etc list I have exactly the same things listed as in my pals list..EXCEPT! What is this 'cos I didn't see this listed in the Fujitsu drivers list. Advice badly needed here peeps 'cos i'm in serious danger of losing my 'street cred'!

Haven't got any headphones Fletch, the only sound that I've heard from this lappy, was when I went into the BIOS to have a look see,and pressed the wrong 'tab'.Then I got a quick "Beep".That's it!
