When you say 'ceased working', what do you mean ? It doesn't open, it reports an error message, it crashes whilst open ? I assume you use Windows 10. If so, try working through the options here: pureinfotech.com/fix-microsoft-edge-windows-10/

Hello Monsieur Matt. Thanks for replying. When itypein, say,Tescobank and click on the activate button, nothing happens.Zilch Itried th aps button, but this gave me 2 options-"modify" or"Uninstal",Clicking the modify button creates a number of moving dots, then nothing. I'm temporarily using an old desktop and edge inprivate was working well. But I was not given any other options like "repair"

If you are using "in private", does that exclude some cookies that might be *required* for on-line transactions, especially anything banking related?
Also, for anything banking related, I would never under any circumstances search for the website in a browser, always type in the exact URL into the navigation field (usually at the top of the screen).
e&oe ...

It looks as though the article I originally supplied may be somewhat out of date. Looking closely at it, I can see the year is 2017. Apologies for that I take it you are using the Chromium Edge version of the browser. I don't use Edge, but I hope you are able to use another browser for now. Please have a look here and see if there is anything relevant: www.windowscentral.com/five-ways-fix-common-problems-microsoft-edge-chromium(hopefully of more use............) By the way, is the rest of Windows up to date ? You say you are using an old desktop. Well worth going to Windows Update and checking, especially for online banking. One more thing: Je ne suis pas Francaise ! (ou un Francophile soit........) (I am not French ! Or a Francophile either........)

It's OK, I just wondered if you were under the impression I was French for some reason (I'm not, I'm basically British, although to be fair I think there is a little bit in the family tree), when you were addressing me as Monsieur Matt. Maybe I am a Francophile ? En tout cas..........I'm not sure whether you use the Chromium Edge version or not, by the way. If the steps in the link I provided don't work, then I'm not really sure what else to suggest, but I'll let you try them. I don't guarantee they will work though ! I haven't used Edge for ages, it's not my choice of browser. PS: As for my French, it's been a long time since I did it at school, and whilst I had an idea of what to put, I still had to use G***le to assist me (when I did I found I was about 60% right). There's very little call for it round here !

I've tried Edge tonight, and I don't experience the problem you described. (It is Chromium Edge on this PC, incidentally)
For the record, when using Edge, on this machine when I go to Help and feedback, About Microsoft Edge, it reports as Version 88.0.705.53.
So you need to see if your version number is the same. If not, it will update to the latest version, and will ask you to restart Edge Browser.
There is an option under Settings to 'Reset settings' though presumably you'd only do that as a last resort.
There are other options such as 'Privacy, search, and services', and 'Cookies and site permissions'. But, not using Edge, I don't really know anything about those.
Anyway, good luck (bonne chance) !

V88.0.705.53 was only released yesterday to update V88.0.705.50 so pierre was most likely on the earlier version.

I'm puzzled then. Apart from updating, I can only refer you back to my other suggestions. As I said, I don't use Edge (but I do use Opera as my main browser, and flip knows why - it's too frustrating for me at times, and I really ought to consider ditching it). Someone else knows far more than me about Edge anyway, but sorry my suggestions weren't of much use. As for the new PC, if it runs faster than the old one, you may as well use that. Having said that, it can be a hassle migrating your Pictures, Documents etc to the new one. I'm not sure of an easy, foolproof way to do that yet. Then there's removing the bloatware that often comes installed on new PCs. Then there's the updates. All of this will take time, but completely necessary to protect yourself and ensure your safety. I've been on the computer for what seems like hours at times, applying patches and updates, and the necessary restarts involved (sometimes several). Java, things like that. I do use a program though called PatchMyPC to assist me, which is free and very good. It runs as a portable program, so no install necessary either. patchmypc.com/home-updaterYou can always set up a thread for when you do decide to take the plunge, and we'll try and do our very best to guide you through it. Anyway, Bye for Now.

Bonjour (?) again. I was wondering what was happening. Thanks for getting back in touch again though. I was beginning to worry about you not being able to use the internet properly. It's hard to say what helped remediate your problem, without knowing more. With computers (PCs in particular), there can be numerous causes for each problem. I doubt you were the only one with that problem, but I still haven't got around to using Edge. I don't know why (maybe MS paranoia ?). Plenty of browsers out there to try though. I should have asked before, but in future, could you provide us with a little more information please ? That would give me some more information to go on, and help me find possible solutions. (it's my own fault for not asking that before though ) You can do that by pressing Windows key + R, and typing winver (then click OK), and you also need to tell us whether you're using 32-bit or 64-bit. It could be that problems are specific to a particular version of Windows. Anyway, well done (or bien joue ) !
