Just "upgraded" Real Player.
Once it was heralded as spyware but I think they learned that lesson long ago. The fact is it allows local fixed disk video savings so it earns its place. Just.
Every time you have to watch out for default side loaded applications- usually Chrome. Not good.
This time it tried to change default apps and happily W10 blocked it and reinstated the default image viewing program. Explains why I've had defaults change mysteriously in the past. Edit: it tried to change four defaults, all were rejected by W10.
Every time it takes ages to update, and when it finally does finish the closing dialogue offers the opportunity to run Real Player. As always, when you ignore the "OK" button and close the dialogue box at the "X" it runs the program anyway.
2/10. Mediocre, obfuscating, sly and irritating.

Yes, it's been some time since I used that.
What about media in Real format though (for example, RealAudio) ?

I only give it disk space because it allows me to save YouTube clips locally, but even that is a flaming hoops job using two browsers as well as Real Downloader. It's the only time I ever download anything and I figure if I can watch it anyway then it's up for grabs. If there's an easier way?

Cheers Matt,
Some of those I have tried already. I have found that YouTube seems to move the goalposts, and only Real Networks seem to keep updates up to date. I paid for one of those years ago (in that list) and it ceased to work for ages. At the end of the day when local storage fails (as it does from time to time) I just think "oh well- it's not a big deal" and Real seem to come up with the goods eventually. You just have to negotiate the white water of unwanted "extras" from them.
I have tried to look for the resource URL in the html of the web pages, but they're cleverer than that, the videos are redirected- probably several times. I managed it years ago but they're too smart for me nowadays!
