I've been using DDG for years. It has changed over time. For a start it never has been as comprehensive as Google in its scope of results, and it used to load repeated hits every so often, but more recently it only seems to return about four pages of hits which is plain stupid. I still use it though and only very occasionally fall back on Google.

Try StartPage as your search engine. It is just as secure as DDG
Located at startpage.com I think but it does have a UK version too at startpage.co.uk

I have Start Page Alan, but I cannot see the actual URLs and I rely on that to see the "padlock" too. Maybe it's implicit in the no tracking principle?
