I have the new Edge Browser it's based on the Chromium open-source project. So far so good.

I was offered the Chromium based Edge which I let go ahead. Without so much as glancing at it, I went to the notification area and clicked settings> updates and there it was on offer together with the usual daily security updates without even so much as a manual check. I've no idea why it wasn't presented along with Edge.

Microsoft Windows Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.264)
My fifteen years old "Eudora" mail client still works so I'm sorted. Every update like this holds the possibility of being denied access to my eMail archive. Still, Eudora is not "installed" and I have to <OK> each time I run the executable so that's some guarantee against a M$ sh1tf35t.
Hold press; I checked for any dormant updates sidelined while the biggie was churning away and there were none, but while tapping away at this missive another restart has popped up ...

Right, I've no idea what that was, but the shortcut arrows have reappeared like they do after every major update. The difference this time is that it didn't require a restart to get rid of them.

Hi Nob and MrMatt.
Don't be tempted to use the force install methods like me.
I have 10 machines on my network and foolishly decided to update them all using the Media Creation Tool. It only worked correctly on 2 of them, my wife's laptop and the village Hall computers. All the other 8 had the same problem that after the boot up Lock Screen Login display there was only a blank screen although the mouse pointer were there. Ctrl-Alt-Del would bring up the normal menu and allow the task menu to be displayed. I tried for a few days to find out why but there did not appear to be any other reports by others of this problem. I then did a complete clean re-install on my main computer which now works fine in 2004. Yesterday I decided to use the revert facility to get them back to 1909 and all did so without a problem.
The moral is to wait for the update to be offered by MS Update and not be impatient and try to jump the gun as I did. Also don't do the install on all the machines at the same time which left me with a major problem for some days.

Thanks, Alan I'm not courageous enough anyway to try and jump the gun, I'm just going to wait until 2004 is offered to me via Windows Update. The Windows Upgrade tool should be hopefully able to help with that. Thankfully, I'm only responsible for trying to maintain one PC (!)

Anyway, Edge looks fine but since they're both running on the Chromium engine I shall stick with Opera, mainly because of the mouse buttons navigation facility. Unless there's a plug in for Edge to accomplish the same functionality.

I downloaded it succesfully, but like anything new I need some guidance with it,It is clean and bright and included my favourites..I would probably like to set it as my Home Page but as i'm so used to my old system I am vague about a few things.Eg how do you find the three dots to run it as I want ? I'quite thick now and my eyesight is not great

The dots are top right, ... next to profile image. If you mean set it as your default browser, then setting and its in there.

Thanks Nob.I might have known that. However my screen is quite large and top right of the screen is subject to glare from my window. Things I used to know and do in the old days on C/A have diminished with age and time !
