I'm going to think about that one! I didn't upgrade at the time,as I had a new W10 computer. The old W7 one is sitting not doing much, and has not been connected to the internet for 2years. The only reason I keep it is that it has a CD drawer so I can put cds on our phones!!

I've just "upgraded" my (ex-works) Dell lappy. Went through with barely a whimper. I only had Opera, Sophos On Demand and Eudora installed and so far everythings hunky dory. Even kept my wallpaper and console settings.
Thanks for this Matt.

Just an eensy weensy teensy snagette that the pointer keeps freezing- like all the time. You know- nothing to complicated to get right really? Just a simple HID? I guess it's a resources hog issue though.
Undeterred, I have updated my sitting room PC which is really only for watching films. That one has quite a lot of disparate software on largely related to flashing 'phones, tablets, e-reader and other devices. So far it's working better than the Dell and it's a Lenovo. I read somewhere that Lenovos are frequently problematic with this upgrade but no trouble here ATM.
Cheers again then Matt.

I can't actually vouch for this myself, I haven't tried as I've no need to but I thought I'd post this in good faith (reliable source?).

Well it works.
I have swapped the fixed disk in the Dell for a 240 Mb EVO SSD and deployed the three recovery DVDs that I had made previously. I gave the Samsung setup utility the swerve and seem to have got away with it. Right now it's upgrading to W10 on the new SSD. Fingers crossed ...
I have renamed the "Windows.old" directory and created a new (empty) replacement on all of these upgrades because I read somewhere long after I upgraded my old Compaq lappy that Redmond looks for and wipes out the get out of jail free card after ten of our earth days.
