I want to make a copy of a normal (non copy-protected) DVD - it has a video file with audio soundtrack. I know s*d-all about this type of thing, but I just need something easy for my parents to use. Other programs would probably bamboozle them (and me). I've heard with this program it uses an ASHDISC format (?) or something, or doesn't that apply to DVD copies? What I need to know is does it just make a straight copy, or do I have to change something first Confused (easily).

Its just the file extension used by Ashampoo.

So, would it play on a standalone DVD player?
I tried BurnAware Free before and couldn't make sense of that. I just need something simple (and free) that does the job, and my parents can understand. I'm prepared to try others.

Does it really make any difference whether I use +R or -R DVDs?
(I don't understand the differences)
As far as I am aware, this machine should use both.

On most machines it makes little or no difference

Finally done it!
We had some dodgy Verbatim -R's which were causing us problems for a long time. Probably best just to see if we can recycle or bin them.
Got some Polaroids today. I don't know what everybody else reckons, but they've done the job anyway. Tried the DVDs out on a TV.
I could still do with a dummies guide for this kind of thing though (as I would for most things!)

Hardware designed to playback re-writable discs can be quite choosy. I seem to recall that computers took most types in their stride, but occasionally domestic players would only play ball with DVD+R? Whatever, back in the day my "Elmer" told me to stick with CD-R and I did and I have extended that subliminal notion to DVDs too. I consider that re-writables should never have been let onto the market, even for those Mini cam corders that used them prior to flash memory price adjustment. Not much call for copying discs these days it seems- I only seem to have to do it for others. All this brings back suppressed memories of trying to work around copy blocked discs, keeping a small armoury of copying software, flashing region free firmware onto disk drives, wrestling with .obb files and scrapping loads of blanks. Horrible.

The movies were too large to fit on a CD-R, otherwise I'd have used those.
We'll just have to see how it goes.
