So,since at heart I'm a lazy so and so,I tend to use my small fire tablet for most things(email, surfing, etc)but recently the battery has been running down much more quickly. I've tried the usual suspects...switching off and on,closing all apps, running a virus scan and c cleaner, but not only do I find no problems with the system, but the battery rundown still persists. Don't get me wrong, its not a critical problem, just an annoying one. I can only assume that the battery is coming to the end of it's useful life.
Or am I missing something very obvious??

Depends on how long you have had it . The typical battery has a lifetime of around 500-1000 charge cycles then exhibits what you describe. Replacement of the battery is not too difficult (Search Google/Utube etc) New batteries are not that expensive and it can be done in 10 mins or so.

My guess would be the battery as well. Don't get a cheap one as I found with a lappy battery of ebay its a waste of money.

Have to agree with your assessment,I thought that battery was the most likely problem, but I wanted to check that I hadn't missed something obvious. There are a couple of how to do it videos, but batteries forthis particular model are in short supply. It's liveable at present, but in my limited experience things tend to go downhill fairly quickly. At least it's not my only computer, just the most portable.

"Fire" tablet has Android / Linux running under the hood right? Start up in "Recovery Mode" (Google how) ***watch what you're doing*** and flush the cache partition. Start it again in "Safe Mode" (Google how) and compare the rate of discharge. Keep in mind that most of your installed apps wont function in Safe Mode, but if the battery performance suddenly looks up then you can try to find out which one(s) is/are power draining. The solution may then be obvious if somewhat unpalatable. Despite the foregoing, my guess is just as has already been noted by others; simply that the battery has seen better days, but I recently changed the battery on a 2012 Nexus7 for the same reason with an OEM, and it hasn't made a jot of difference.

Well,it looks like you were on the right track, banjo. Decided to leave it on overnight with internet switched off...No drain at all. Then uninstalled every all that it would let me, and then reinstalled them one by one. Seems that our friend BBC iPlayer and media player might be the culprit. A few more to go,but OK so far without the above. Fingers crossed!!

Facebook is often a prime suspect for battery drain.

Facebook is often a prime suspect for battery drain. That's one that was never a problem.........I refuse to have anything to do with it!!

Two possibilities are most likely: It's old, and the battery doesn't hold a charge well anymore. This tends to happen after a couple years. You're running an app that isn't well behaved and is causing the tablet to consume more energy than usual. If you want help diagnosing further, tell us exactly what kind of tablet you have, and give some detail (as much as you can) about the battery life situation. Regards, Adrian

Thanks for your reply Adrian,it seems to have been BBC iPlayer and media player, which I don't use anyway ( on that tablet) Uninstalled both, and it's all good.
