The Device Descriptor is a facility that all plug 'n' pray devices have. They announce what they are to the operating system at the moment of insertion and that allows the OS to install or load the appropriate driver. I think it's part of the firmware. Doesn't sound too good esoecially since you have such a short deadline. Assuming it's not visible in Explorer, can you see the drive using Disk Management? (used to be a context menu option on "My Computer" in XP and on my works W7 laptop.) I don't know about W8 I'm.afraid.. If you can see it in Disk Managment, try downloading "Recuva" and see what it can find. Fingers crossed for you Pat. I've had a couple of pen drives go south on me over the years.

no Recuva cant find it nor is it appearing in the disk management. disk management can be found with windows key and x and then select disk management. but thank you for trying

Writing from a remote location, there's nothing I can do and from my odd past experiences with recalcitrant flash drives, it's normally goodnight Vienna. I had one pen drive that used to crash my computer until I discovered that if I held off from pushing it in the last 1/16" (or there abouts") it behaved nicely. I binned that POS. I'm sure that there are data recovery laboratories but they only come at extreme cost. The only real fix is the insurance of a back up, but if you're like me you never get around to it because life's too short (especially with a drive full of massive video files.)
