So, for all of you people who have the good sense to use Firefox as their browser, yer boy has come upon a lovely little addon that makes it simple to read an ebook on yer lappy. www.epubread.com/en/Download and install this and it puts a little icon in yer browser toolbar. To use it, open yer browser (obviously) click on the icon and it opens the reader, either navigate to the ebook that yer have nicked acquired and drag and drop, or use the 'file' menu. Seems a nice bit of kit, although I've only just begun using it myself tbh.

Nice and I use this to manage ebooks I've downloaded and add them to the Mrs Kindle.

Anyway, having decided that I just can't be arsed using my puter as a Kindle, I decided to see if I could find a way of using my 7" Asus tablet instead. Two things to do, first find an Android Ereader app to do the job. No problem, there's a bunch of them. I settled for one called 'Supreader' and made it the default app for reading Epub files. I chose this 'cos it's simple to use, very customisable and instead of having to bookmark a page, it opens the ebook where it left off. Second thing to do was transfer the Epub file from by puter to my Asus. This turned out to be a lot more difficult than I anticipated. B/Tooth didn't work for some reason, still not sure why, 'cos it works with pictures and music. I connected with usb, seems that the 'books' folder is inside the 'File Manager' app in the 'Internal Storage' link. (learn summat every day) So, I transferred the Ebook file into the 'Books' folder, created a shortcut on the desktop and Robert's yer Dad's brother. So, my tablet is now a Kindle and I've saved meself a few bob. Rats the thrifty.

I can't remember which app I "use" because I never seem to want to use them. That's because a paper white display on a dedicated reader is easier on the old lamps than a constantly refreshed display on any tablet or PC. The reader batteries also last a couple of months. But I do have two apps on the Android tablet- just in case... Both were selected for the animated page turns which this simple and not quite so thrifty mind likes. I bought a Nook (now abandoned by Barnes and Noble) but it only cost £29. Hippy the miser!
