I have been presented with a new Dell monitor--U2412M--by a close relative. It doesn't appear to have speakers installed, and I would be embarrassed to admit this to my benefactor, nor am I in a position to return the item to wherever it was purchased.Have I got any other choices in this matter? Any advice would be appreciated

I have a pair of Logitech ones connected to the lappy in my office, they are much better than the installed ones. IIRC they didn't cost much either.

That's the way I would go as well, buy a pair, but I would use the sound output on the PC whether it be a card or motherboard.

Deffo the audio outputs. The USB presents a constant CPU load in hand shaking. That used to be the advantage of iee1394 over USB- it's a direct pipe after transfer protocols have been established.

My monitor does not have speakers, all I have done is connected an external pair via the audio outputs also I have a headset that I use in a front input output socket.
