Although I normally use Linux Mint 13 (due to age of hardware) there are two others others I have tried in Live sessions this week that are worthy contenders as replacements, Puppy 6 Tahrpup and Debian Live 7.6.0 Wheezy. Both are available from distrowatch.com/ Debian : distrowatch.com/?newsid=07844Puppy : distrowatch.com/?newsid=08678The interesting thing about this Puppy distro is that it relies on the Ubuntu repos so there is a huge amount of compatible free software available. For me. the great thing about modern distros is how they can be run on quite old hardware. A guy gave me his old HP Laserjet 1022 printer because he couldn't find a Windows 8 driver for it. It works beautifully with my brand new Linux systems.

Puppy linux is getting very popular, I haven't tried it myself, because I'm not really into distro hopping, and anyway, I've only just got myself familiar with with the upgrade to Mint 17.
