What benefits would I see if I bought a desktop Pc which had a 128gb ssd as well as a common or garden hard drive ?

Much faster speeds as the computer don't have to read from a rotating disc

If you had windows on the solid state one the boot up would be almost instantanious. For me the large capacity ones are too expensive. But if you can make do with 128 and use a big mechanical HD for storage then go for it.

Thanks,Fletch. This is what I thought. When you boot up,does the ssd kick in first ?.Ergo does it fill up first ? Or maybe one has to choose which drive to operate. Mind you I am in the elderly confused club,so be gentle with me !

Translation. Do not defrag an SSD, Because of the way it works, its not required. W7 and W8 replace the auto defrag with an auto TRIM command which runs every few weeks. Running defrag regularly will shorten the life of the drive. Do not put XP on an SSD. It doesn't support TRIM and will slow down and eventually grind to a halt. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trim_(computing)
