The majority of police cars are not equipped with anpr, so it will down to the individual officer. If the dvla are running a specific campaign then the police will support it wholeheartedly.
As for the speed limits, every officer has a different threshold, there are guidelines, but officers have a lot of discretion. Just because it was 80 yesterday doesn't mean it is 80 today - if the cop has been at a serious crash their threshold might come down for a bit.

He also told me they do not stop drivers on motorways and dual carriageways unless they are almost at 80 mph
I think that you will find out the reason for that is that there is 10% discresion for speedo inacuracies. Thus at 70mph 10% would be 7mph = 77mph. Trouble is now with most cars having digital instruments it may not be valid anymore.

Clearly borderline racism and bullying aren't the two things, so I'm assuming that you don't allow threads on cross stitch and flower pressing? Back to the OP. Anpr relies on the regimented plate format, otherwise the reads aren't accurate. You can bet your bottom dollar that the dvla will be looking for the police to become more hardline with people who's plates don't conform. Never mind what Nob sez, borderline flower pressing will almost certainly get you a yellow card from Geoff (he has a 'thing' about it) As for the other two things, I don't know what 'borderline rascism' is anymore. I'm still finding it difficult to understand how it's not rascist for one black dude to address another black dude with the 'N' word...but it is if a white dude does it. Also, I can't call a Pakistani a 'Paki'... but it's ok for anyone to call me a Brit. My head spins with it all. However..out of all of the original drinkers here, I'm betting that I would find it the easiest to disprove a charge of rascism!

Actually Banjo, those advocating the outlawing of hands-free calls have a point, at least as far as I'm concerned. Whilst I'm not a great user of my mobile, £20 credit usually lasts me about a year, it does sit in my car most of the time. It connects seamlessly with the car's own sim card and telematics, is charged by the car, sitting out of sight in the centre console cradle. I can operate it via the iDrive system, or via buttons on the steering wheel, or via voice commands. The latter option really does make it hands-free. However, my point is that whenever I use the phone, either to make or receive a call, I am invariably distracted and on ending the call am usually surprised that I have no recollection of driving the last mile or so. I know we drive often without consciously thinking about the moves we are making, but it is still disturbing to think this happens. Do we really need to be in constant communication with the rest of the universe ? He's having yer pants down BJ.....we all know that Al employs a chauffeur.

I always thought that the police used the 10% + 2mph as a guideline. i.e. you would only get done if you were above, say, 68mph in a 60mph area. Back to the original thread - I've got my new disc ready for 1st September. So do I just display it until 1st October and then remove it ?

My wife was fined for doing 44 mph in a 40 mph zone. Fine and 3 points on her licence.

Yup, best beloved got done for 44 in a 40 limit too. I figure it depends upon which side of the bed the officer got out that morning. I'd like to see figures for how often peeps get fingered for speeding when it's raining. Jess sayin like.

Here in North Lincs we are told its as Alan said, 10% plus 2. Like you say Jo depends on the force and the copper if his wife didn't bollock him for summit and he went to work wound up.

I wonder if it has more to do with achieving targets (prosecutions) than a policeman`s mood. Every aspect of life these days seems to revolve around targets being achieved. I`m sure the police must have them as do traffic wardens, for instance, for issuing parking tickets.
