This thread appears to have been hijacked, so will let you know what I, my brother and some friends, witnessed eons ago. We were all about 8 years old and had been playing by a stream next to a railway line (as kids do). About 500 yards away, round a slight bend, we noticed smoke coming from a steam train which had stopped. Being curious off we went to see what had happened. What a sight we came upon! 4 railway workers had been killed by the train. Apparently they had been working on one line when a train approached so stepped onto the other track. Sods law applied and a train came the other way to meet the other train at the point where the workers were standing. Body bits everywhere but the one thing which sticks in my mind is an ambulance man picking up a boot with the foot still inside it - the foot having been amputated just above the ankle. No counselling in those days. As kids we just got on with life with no after effects that I can remember at all through having witnessed a very traumatic scene. .

The missus is an anaesthetics technician in an operating theatre. We don't talk about work- especially before dinner!

This is a healthy forum and I reckon the mods do well to give free rein in the way they do. Respect!

Respect! e&oe BJ...I don't know if you are aware of this, but this place was initially set up by Nob and Fletch, after the mods over at CA went power crazy and started banning people (usually the wrong people) Obviously and because of that, we here go out of our way to give plenty of leeway to drinkers, and we don't expect everyone to agree about everything. There are however, one or two things that we never have and never will stand for...a line not to be crossed! Harrumph ..... I of course, have never been banned from anywhere, everyone everywhere thinks I'm wonderful and loves me to bits. Naturally, knowing everything worth knowing about almost everything, does help. My pal Smudger Smyth will be very happy to confirm this. Will someone roll me another spliff? ............ This is really good sh*t.

Clearly borderline racism and bullying aren't the two things, so I'm assuming that you don't allow threads on cross stitch and flower pressing? Back to the OP. Anpr relies on the regimented plate format, otherwise the reads aren't accurate. You can bet your bottom dollar that the dvla will be looking for the police to become more hardline with people who's plates don't conform.

That my friend is why my neighbour changes his plates for the MOT. Its a fail if they arnt right. But yes the police will have to apply the law cos there's plenty running about with illegal plates. Feel free to start a thread about cross stitch or flower pressing if that's what floats ya boat.

Actually Banjo, those advocating the outlawing of hands-free calls have a point, at least as far as I'm concerned. Whilst I'm not a great user of my mobile, £20 credit usually lasts me about a year, it does sit in my car most of the time. It connects seamlessly with the car's own sim card and telematics, is charged by the car, sitting out of sight in the centre console cradle. I can operate it via the iDrive system, or via buttons on the steering wheel, or via voice commands. The latter option really does make it hands-free. However, my point is that whenever I use the phone, either to make or receive a call, I am invariably distracted and on ending the call am usually surprised that I have no recollection of driving the last mile or so. I know we drive often without consciously thinking about the moves we are making, but it is still disturbing to think this happens.
Do we really need to be in constant communication with the rest of the universe ?

Some time ago I asked my wife`s niece`s husband, a police patrol car driver, about this and he said if their ANPR camera cannot read the plate correctly to give details about the vehicle they will pull them over. Some non-conforming plates can be read by ANPR cameras. He also told me they do not stop drivers on motorways and dual carriageways unless they are almost at 80 mph.
