The current healing on mailonline, shows photo's of meals being served in hospitals throughout the UK, it makes for interesting comment. I know you tend to loose your appetite in hospital, but from the photo's shown and my experience, they don't do much to tempt you.

Too much money being spent on treating Foreigners to make good meals.

When i was in hospital for 2 weeks the grub was great you didn't get a lot but it was filling and well cooked i couldn't fault the meals, BTW the toast was brilliant.

Same when I was in last year Geoff, even the coffee & hot chocolate was nice. I think hospital meals are like airline meals, everyone takes the P, but they're OK. Craig.

I found the hospital meals to be really good I was in for just over a week in August 2002 and couldn't fault them. When the list came round asking what you liked I ticked everything and got plenty on my plate everyday, infact I put on weight. As you say Nob too many foreigners scrounging on the NHS.

That's not a bad idea (ticking everything) at least you could guarantee something to your liking.

On the ward menu there was a choice of 4 starters, 10 main courses, 4 sweets, cheese and biscuits .

Also it does help if you like nearly everything and aren't picky and choosy at what you eat.

I do have one memory of something. When I was admitted for whatever, the meal given to me was what the previous patient had ordered. I lifted the tureen and there lay a dead cooked mackerel. Head, tails the bloody lot, ugh.

As far as I am concerned, when I went in to have my knee done 3 years ago. After the complications that ensued were sorted out. Then when I was allowed to eat, I have no qualms about what was on the menue.

Well, as you know, I have recently (and reluctantly) spent a little time in one of those NHS establishments. All I can say is, the grub is not nearly as good now as it was eight years ago, when i was previously in there. This time I lived mainly on sarnies, the only other thing I found palatable was the 'Cumberland Pie'....and the 'fish'n'chip' dinner was an absolute insult to our national dish.

9 years ago(where does the time go ) My dad had to have an operation for an aneurysm,it is a massive operation as most of the major organs have to be moved to repair the artery. He had the surgery but suffered a big infection and ended up on a ventilator and then had a tracheotomy to help his breathing. He was 5 weeks in intensive care and was feed via tube which was linked to what I can describe as wallpaper paste in a bag. Anyway he got a bit stronger so was moved to a normal ward, that's when things went downhill. He had to have his meals pureed and often the use to forget him, many times me or my sister would get him some rice pudding or similar. He was only thin to start with(around 10 stone) but weight was falling off him and he kept get infections until finally after 10 weeks in hospital he died, aged 85. Up to him going into hospital he was as fit as a fiddle and didn't take any medication what so ever. He was my best friend,my drinking partner and most of all my dear old dad..
