My son had been a Tramper for many years until recently when he decided to go self employed, whilst in his last job he was the butt of most jokes between the drivers as his truck was always breaking down. One day I took pen to hand and came up with this. An Ode To The Ferryman
4-30 in the morning
16 wheels on the road,
The driver checks the wagon
Yep!! There’s Ferrymans on the board
He climbs up in his cab
“This is going to be a thrill,”
800,000k on the clock
And DAF across the grille.
The engine starts and he sets off
It hasn’t been an hour,
A trailer full of palletted goods
And the lorry loses power.
It’s pointless phoning the office now
Their all tucked up in bed,
I’ll better ring the boss he thought
Oh !! This is doing my head.
“Hey boss I’m sat here in your truck
And this is not a joke,
It’s 5-30 in the morning
And your lorry is `Feckin` broke.
Don’t worry son we do our best
You say you lost all power,
Why don’t you jump up on your bunk
We pay you by the hour.
4 hours pass and he did wake
His mind all a jitter,
He pulls the curtains and looks out
No sign of the bloody fitter.
On the phone he goes once more
“These trucks are past their best”,
“It’s time to export them boss
And let the Indians do the rest.
“C’mon son, settle you down
Office work is hard,
“But boss , I’ve been trying to tell you
I’m still in the `Feckin` yard.
Lucky for me he seen the funny side |
