Uncleub, Have you tried other options like satellite b/band or even 3G mobile? MIght be faster than your measly 384 kb! Hi Mr Satellite BB is way out of my price range, the set up costs are very high...4G is a strong possibility. At present I am with AAISP getting around 2mb down and 0.40 up on BT 20CN,They are moving me over to Talk Talk LLU on Monday which could give me nearer 4mb and nearly 1mb upstream so we shall see.Its only a 30 day rolling contract so if it isn't working out I will consider 4G

Yep, sorry 4G, though I've read elsewhere that some folk are having problems with 4G so if you do 3G might be worth a look.

Is 4G expensive ie more data downloaded and your allowance used quicker?

Is 4G expensive ie more data downloaded and your allowance used quicker? Nob,4G can give you quite fast speeds,in some cases faster than a normal landline broadband connection.Which means you can do things faster,ie downloading TV/video clips/music etc.You only use the same as 3G.It is more expensive. I could get a 15GB data sim for a tablet from EE for £20 a month..3 Mobile do 10GB for £15.It depends who has the best coverage where you live. You can't put a phone sim into a tablet(well you can but they have ways of telling if you do)Many phone sims come with unlimited data that is why people try it on,where as data only sims come with a fixed amount.Anything from 500mb up to 20GB

Got to better than 3G Unc that is boring waiting for the download to end. I need unlimited as we all use the connection plus there's telly catch up, it all adds up.

There aren't many isp's now that actually offer a 'true' unlimited download usage, most have a small print fup.My old isp Origin did though but tbh it was wasted on me,sole user and quite a low download amount each month.Top UK based support is more important to me than a massive download usage, been down the Talk Talk and BT route of talking to some halfwit in Mumbai or wherever. One of the best isp's I was with was O2 LLU,Uk based support, truly unlimited downloads(no fup) and never paid more than £7.50 a month for the 3 years I was with them.Gutted when they Sky took them over.

Unc I've been with freeserve all the way through the take covers till I ended up with Talk talk, the only problem is like you say Indians, I can't understand them and they do my head in. But if you have a problem push the I want to leave button then you get an English person who you can understand.

Virgin b/b appear to be 'unlimited'... I regularly use over 100gb per month. In fact I've already this last week used 64gb (Networx) I've never heard a word from them about it!

Sky Broadband offer a true unlimited service, I'm using it right now and have done for the past 6 years. Their support office is based in Belfast so they speak English (boyo!). As I regularly download new linux distros to try out (mostly 3GB or more) I use massive amounts of download space. Sky have never throttled me nor set any download limits. I have only praise for them, they even arranged for a BT Openreach engineer to call here and check the phone wiring in my home. He found problems and re-wired the phone line, including supplying and fitting one of their latest master sockets that doesn't need a separate b/band filter. Sky paid for it and they sent me a free brand new SR102 modem router. That's good service in my book and we are outside any contract period with them too! Here's my latest speed stats, not bad for a Friday evening!
