I have known for over a year now that my, by 10 years, youngest non smoking, in fact never smoking, brother was diagnosed with lung cancer. He was given an estimated 9 months but although deteriorating had outlasted them. Although a shadow of his former 4 handicap he still managed to play a few holes daily but this morning he had a stroke and is now in a hospital, on a morphine driver in a world of his own. He is 50 miles away from here with his wife, son and daughter wanting to be beside him as he leaves this world. Sorry for my commiserations but to lose a 57 year old brother, who has captained the Ulster rugby union team and taken £s of me at golf, seems so wrong but like most peeps I'll learn to live with it knowing that once again life can be so unfair. My brother passed away at 04:45 hrs this morning, Wed.18th Jun

Very sorry to hear your sad news Peter.Yes life is very cruel and often takes the 'good ones'much too early in life.
I lost my mum when she was only 61 and my OH's mum was only 44 when she died.
Always remember the good times.

One of the things that they taught best beloved when she embarked upon a counselling course is that you must never say "I know how you feel" because you just don't know, but you do have my sympathies Peter. I've been there too many times myself starting with a 5 years old nephew and I really do feel for you. Things do improve over time. At the moment you're in that void period and everyone's thoughts are with you. Steve.

Just been talking to my neighbour,he said a lad who lives on our estate(he use to be the local postie)has committed suicide Apparently he lost his dad a few months ago and last week his sister died.He was only in his mid 30s....What a waste of a life.

Thanks everyone for your kind words of condolence and I now know a private funeral and cremation will take place on Saturday. There will be a church memorial service the following Tuesday 24th June which would have been his 58th birthday under different circumstances.
Thanks again.
