Happy birthday to me! I got a Fujifilm X20 from best beloved (should please Al...) and we went to the Greenwich Royal Observatory. The Cutty Sark closed for boarders at 4 O-clock. (Insert rant here...................) But, I made it to 57 some how, so drinks all round charps. ;<D

Many happy returns of the day young fella........Fifty seven eh! Almost a callow youth compared to some of the old buzzards here, our Anne has been 59 ever since I can remember, and Smudger's liver should be receiving a telegraph from the Queen pretty soon. I myself am pushing 60.

And I share(d) it with Madge!
It seems but a distant murky memory now, but I'm sure I can remember paying both taxes and stamp with the not unrealistic expectation of being able to call time (IMHO) deservedly at 65... I feel comfortable in regurgitating the hackneyed observation that one D. Turpin was decent enough to affect a mask. Just think how many extra unexpected folding green beer tokens I shall have with which to lubricate my dwindling years. I'm looking forward to see the new finishing line unless they continue to pull up the gang plank and send me on another trip around the harbour. It wouldn't happen elsewhere (like France for example) but it's said that you have to rub an Englishman's trunk in the gravel before he bites back. (How true) Does any one know whether the aforementioned draws a pension? Sigh.
On a happier note!!!

On a happier note!!! e&oe Ah!......but y'see you youngsters have bought all this on yerselves by living so long, if most of you played by the rules and turned yer toes up a few years earlier, the survivors would still get their pension at 65. BTW....until recently, the Greeks retired on a state pension at about 57...not anymore they don't, and I think that before too long, the the Froggies will be finding themselves up the same smelly creek, in a similarly porous canoe without the familiar means of propelling such a vessel. If you catch my drift!

The double whammy is that (I believe I read somewhere) actuaries of pension schemes know that one third of all hoi-poloi that do manual work are history within 5 years of retirement at 65, not including those hapless souls that bail out prior to getting a single penny of the grudgingly handed out state stipend. Having sheltered from all that acid rain under a factory roof all my "productive" life, I guess that includes me. I was one of those who figured out how to mend the puncture on my new bike on Boxing Day instead of chucking it on the ground in the back garden in the rain- and look where it's got me.
Ma gone at 38 courtesy of Kensitas. Pops gave up the ghost at 69 thanks to an extremely rare complaint that carried off his twin brother too within a year. And that's just parents...the circle of acquaintances is already diminishing. I know that this sounds like a whinge, but it isn't- it's just saying that I'm not taken in by those talentless gonzos who can't even be ar53d to pop into Westminster half of the time (when I'd get snarfed by the clock machine.) If that's the most imaginative way that they can balance the books that they snafu-d, then pffft. They don't just steal money- they steal lives too. Perhaps Nige would sort something out? Nah. Self interest and altruism are uneasy bedfellows.
Classic grumpy old man that forgets all too easily that best beloved missed bailing out at 60 by around 6 weeks and then had an extra year tacked on too just to add insult to injury. Fess up time though- life's pretty good init, so get over it eh? In that respect all present around here on said birthday clinked glasses to the next decade, and I'll drink to that ;<D Thanks for all the good wishes.

Whyte and Mackay £ 18 a litre at tesco, that's all that matters. Find the best deal and enjoy. Your not going to see another 57.

There you go, my boy Nob has got his priorities sorted out just like a formula one grid. Pole position, the cheapest Scotch in town team. But anyway..my advice is, just keep breathing in and out, worked for me so far.
