R.I.P. Reuben 'Hurricane' Carter. A boxing legend. I remember watching him on America's 'Fight of the Week' program in the sixties. Reuben was probably the hardest hitting middleweight I've seen, he was a smaller version of Mike Tyson, even had the shaven head. He was so hard hitting, all the other middleweights did their best to avoid him. Tragedy struck..he spent about 20yrs in prison for an armed robbery...............he was innocent. If you doubt this, watch the film 'The Hurricane' starring Denzil Washington, it tells his story. Damned good film too!

Yep, the last time I saw him, the last thing he said to me was " Rats!....give my best to old Smudger will you, I always liked the dopey old sod"

RIP, got talking to an old lad today who beat Dick Mctaggart back in the day. I remember him, never did turn pro I think. Won olympic gold though if memory serves! I didn't know him but a wiki shows he won gold and a bronze a few years later. This old guy took a shine to the daughters dog I was walking and invited us in to see his cups that he won for dog training and boxing. He now has Parkinson's. Brian's his name, I used to see him walking his German Shepherd but that's died now and I think he gets lonely and loves a chat. He tells us he turned pro in boxing and did well at it until age stopped him. You never know who lives round the corner.
