So, the lovely Sue Townsend, author of the Adrian Mole books has passed away. Sue was a local lass from the nearby council estate, I never knew her really well, only on a "Hi, how ya doing" basis. Not nearly so well as I knew her first husband and his brother, both good lads who drank in my local. My pal Stevie knew her well, errr intimately in fact, and I'm pretty sure that she had a 'thing' for Shag at one time. Sue was quite a 'looker' when she was young, funny and intelligent too, she really shouldn't have married her first husband who was a 'ducker and diver'....good lad though all the same. Actually, her daughter Vicki is much like her Ma when she was younger, Vicki is a good lass, always with a smile on her face, she is the landlady of a local pub. RIP Sue...a proper burd.

By all accounts it sounds as though fame never went to her head like it does some R.I.P. Sue

Diabetes took her sight then caused an early death. RIP. Nob I'm agreeing with you but self awareness should reduce early deaths from diabetes. OK my father an insulin dependent diabetic from 1952 until his death in late 1998 was a medically trained person which helped. These days there's so many controlling, NHS free. instruments anybody that dies from being diabetic is someone that doesn't really care. Almost like suicide and it is hard for me to say that but the present help, if not taken, does not make anyone a martyr,

If that's the case then she should have known better she must have been a smart cookie to write those books, I enjoyed the telly series.

I wasn't aware that she died of diabetes, I was told that she had a stroke. Didn't know she was a martyr either, I am pretty sure she was Church of England when she was younger. However, dunno if I've mentioned it before, but nobody tells me owt!
