Well what's it all about then, seems very strange to me.  First up I have to admit, that until all of this kicked off, I thought that Crimea was already a part of Russia. Just as it was when the Light Brigade boys charged down that valley. Those guns were very deffo Russian back then. Also I now understand, about 90% of the Crimean population are Rooskies and want to go back to belonging to Russia. Ergo...they had a referendum on doing just that and have now voted overwhelmingly to do it. But, the western politicians say that this ain't on, and our own Billy Boy is kicking up a right fuss about it and having a pop at the Rooskies. Well, forgive my naive ignorance on things diplomatic, but didn't we do almost exactly the same thing in both the Falklands and Gibraltar? Just asking like! |

The way I see it is that Ukraine and the leader were pro Russian. Then some started a revolution to become like the west. They kicked out the leader and got their own in. Russia saw that the Ukraine was going like the west and thought Crimea would be drawn with Ukraine. Seeing as there are people who are pro Russian they jumped in to keep it Russian. Just like we did with the Falklands. Trouble is now they are starting to kill Ukraine squaddies who cross the border.

Lets do a comparison. Think of Ireland as Ukraine, N. Ireland as Crimea and Britain as Russia. Ireland wants NI to stay in Ireland but the majority of peeps in NI want to become part of Britain. Britain wants NI to be British so the deed is done. If you all think the Russians are wrong do you all think the British are wrong for taking part of Ireland and ruling it from Britain. The 2 situations are "basically" identical. Crimea wants to be part of Russia, Russia welcomes them but Ukraine wants Crimea to remain in the Ukraine. Before you know it we'll see the Ukraine Republican Army forming and start blowing up all Russian installations in Crimea, with Skoda bombs, hoping the Ruskies will get pis*ed off and tell Crimea to sod off back home. We've all been there done it, well Pierre and I have anyway.  |

Russia and Germany were at war and the Russians knew their enemy but if Russian soldiers start getting killed in Ukraine by unseen, unknown assassins then that's a different kettle of fish. |

Both for the men from NI who fought in WWs1&2 and 'cos the majority of the people of NI want it. That pal, does not mean that we necessarily want it. Don't remember being asked anyway! |
