Jazus...I didn't realise that big Tony was that old! He could really head a football, terrific player for both Villa and Chelsea. He terrified centre halves all over the world. RIP Big Tony

Very sad news indeed.I remember seeing play many times,brilliant header of the ball.
Bill Shankly signed him for Liverpool £96000.Scored 28 goals in 56 games for Liverpool

I remember seeing him play for Notts County when dad my used to take me to watch them in the early 60s , he had another season with County in the early 70s. BTW his son Mark was a good header of the ball

Hi Geoff it depends who the manager is at the time and whether the player or players fits in with his style of play.
Instead of fitting the style of play to fit the players you have in the team.

Take your point John but back in the 60s England's style of play was to have a big rough arsed centre forward who could chase after the ball , mix it a bit with the defenders and was good in the air Tony was ace at all of them

My memory is not good now John i was able to reel players names off years ago will have to get my old football annuals out a few more i remember Cloughie , Tambling , Hunt , Hurst
