Anyway, I have just updated my Avast Free (program) using the 'custom install' option, and it got me to wondering if any of you other Avast users have burned a CD for the 'Rescue Disc' From what I can tell it creates a boot disc that runs offline. Anyone tried it?

Not tried it but it seems you have to keep updating it. Spit has posted about it Here

Ah!...very interesting Geoff.
So, at least for me, this is the interesting part of the article.
"Using an antivirus boot disc or USB drive is actually pretty simple. You’ll just need to find the antivirus boot disc you want to use and burn it to disc or install it on a USB drive. You can do this part on any computer, so you can create antivirus boot media on a clean computer and then take it to an infected computer."
This means that I don't need to create a disc immediately. If say my lappy got badly infected, I could then create an Avast boot disc with my desktop and use that.
