Much to my surprise, I've managed to get my Canon printer to work with my Ubuntu netbook. Every time I asked about printers on the Ubuntu forum, I was led to believe that getting one to work was a job for a Bletchley Park code breaker. It turned out to be roll over simple. I was checking on getting printers to work with 'Mint'. As usual, lots of people were having complicated issues with the problem, when I read a post from a fella which basically said: "I just went to 'System'>'Admin'>Printing'.... clicked add printer. It found my printer, searched for drivers, installed the drivers and printed off a test sheet!"So, as the Ubuntu desktop is similar to the Mint one, I tried the same thing, and sod me it worked a treat! It's been rather a good day so far. Lovely xmas dinner, came home and solved two puter problems!

Generally Canon printers aren't very Linux friendly so you have done well.
HP are usually the best choice.
I have a Samsung laser, a Lexmark laser and a HP all in one. Linux Mint just installs them, no driver disks needed.
I've been to the local Wetherspoons for dinner, £30 a head, wasn't bad and had three pints.
Just been out and had four pints of Sam Smiths Stout but that was enough for stomach in one day.
