Nob, that 2TB desktop drive looks a good buy, can you let us know how it goes. Its a drag and drop drive Alan the sister in law got one that backs up in auto, I just want a back up drive, its not portable cos it has a PSU in the plug, and is 3.5 drive. But I'll let you knowhow it copes with the backups. That's very much the same way as my media player hd works. Since I bought this 23" desktop, I just use the media player hd for a film and vid backup. Don't have it connected to the tv anymore.

I was looking at the slim external drives that fit in your pocket, they are 2,5 inch drives, but this can sit on the desk as I don't intend it being portable, but they do some small ones now if you want to carry them about that take power from the USB port. This is USB3 (blue plug) but backward compatible with USB2 that I use.

Yep, I have two portables. Both are WD Passport models, one is 250gb and is what I keep my portable programs like Ccleaner and FF portable on, use this sometimes for fixing my pals' stuff. T'other is the 1tb job which I keep my backups on. Both about the size of a smartfone. Very handy, just slip them in your pocket. The thing is, my desktop is in my sitting room, the lappy is upstairs in my den/office and my little netbook is usually in my rucksack. I'm a moving target much of the time innit.

Dinky you are the problem with this country, no wonder you left the police, you want everything to be controlled to pre-war standards. Rumour has it Cameron got pissed out of his mind on his 21st birthday but does any one give a damn. Neither Osbourne or Cameron were in power at that time or their suspect misdemeanours so Dinky why drag it up? Lets have an answer this time Dinky

Anyway, The PC backed up using windows 7 backup and recovery, 378Gb took 3.5 hours. Disk created also laptop to do now then Im sorted for the next cock up. Was walking past a horse chestnut tree today, conkers all over the place, Got me thinking in my time as a kid they wouldn't have been there cos we would be playing conkers with them, after soaking in vinegar then baking to make them hard. But alas the kids of today cant play conkers In school because of Health and safety. Mamby pamby state now. Laptop backed up, 87Gb.

Watched Countryfile yesterday, apparently this year has been an abundant year for fruit on trees. The bloke J. Craven were talking too said it happens every 7 years or so, where trees have more fruit than even the wildlife can cope. He called it some name or other. Anyway I have an Oak in the garden and I were only thinking t'other day the acorns were well full. It's like a free trolley dash with the Jackdaws.

Put it in the new external HDD Dave, then it tells you to create a boot disk that you can restore the image with, so just one CD needed along with the new external.
