Anyway, I've been seeing news stories about IDS copping some flack over his attempts to get people off sickie benefits and back to work. It's to do with this 'fit to work' assessment that claimants have to go through now. According to some, IDS is a heartless nazi scumbag who's causing lots of poor helpless folk to drop dead in the street. (hiss, boo) Well, that's as may be, but let me tell you a little story about summat that happened earlier this week, in my local. I ain't gonna mention who this is about, tho' you might guess! So, last Tuesday I'm sitting in the bar early doors, waiting for the fellas to rock up....... In he strolls, looking like a drowned cat. I haven't seen him for a few weeks, mostly 'cos he's been very poorly with gout, he had it in his feet and in his hands, the poor sod could barely move. He's also been out of work ever since he lost his job around 10 months ago. Previously, I've never known him NOT to work, he is by nature a grafter, although, his grafting is sometimes a bit of a Dell Boy nature. Anyway, due to this gout, his doc had put him on the sick..(or whatever they call it now) which upped his wedge from around £80pw to around £110pw. As his rent was being paid by the social, this few quid at least allowed him pay his bills and buy some scran...although not enough for booze, especially as his tipple is Stella at over £4 a pint. So he comes over, he's still limping slightly but he's mostly pain free, but he's well aware that he could wake up in the morning and it's raging again, which has happened several times already. I insist on buying him a drink 'cos he's a pal and a diamond fella. I ask him what's happening. He tells me that he's recently been for this 'fitness to work' assessment thingy. They have sent him the results which he's got on his smartphone. Basically it sez 'he can use his right hand ok for light lifting. He can walk for 100yds, but not any further'.He's not happy, he's told them that the sodding gout keeps coming back without warning and that the doc is trying all sorts of tablets on him to get it under control. However...they say the assessment is the assessment..that's it!!! He sez ..."I'm telling yer Rats, them %$£"&*" tories, they're bastards the lot of 'em, I'm never voting for those *^+#s again. (he usually votes tory) And the point of this story Well...the reason that my boy is soaking wet, is that he's just got back from the south coast where it was pissing down all day. There he was subbing for another pal, they were fitting out a new Costa Coffee shop. It was three days work this week and probably a couple of days next week He's hoping it might be regular as this pal has a contract for this Costa Coffee shop work. Not too shabby for a fella that can only use his right hand innit. Personally, I'm almost feeling sorry for IDS and his 'back to work' team, they've certainly got their work cut out!

IDS is a total sh1tbag, my wife has an INCURABLE chronic illness, she was told that she is capable of work, the person who interviewed her was a complete prick. I wanted to go through the appeals procedure but she was to livid and upset. Just as well with my 2 pensions we get by. Vote tory? (considering I have always voted tory), NEVER again! If IDS ever pops up on my doorstep, he better have a bloody good dentist lined up.

Dinky my wife has an incurable chronic illness diagnosed about a year ago, it's called lung cancer, but working isn't a problem, she's retired, Somehow she manages to look after her flower beds, she has many, do the ironing, dusting, operate the washing machine, hang out clothes to dry and spend days shopping far a field with her daughter in law so Dinky there is chronic illnesses and chronic illnesses. My wife is retired but if she had to work she physically could. Dinky I'm not saying your wife could work but you only told us she had an incurable chronic illness and that does not always make someone physically unable to work. It might mentally make them unable to work but that's a different story.

As usual the moronic remarks of a potcheen addled thicko do not warrant ANY reply! Dinky obviously you disagree and believe all chronic incurable disease suffers are not able to hold down employment. This poteen addled thicko would just love you to explain why in your opinion all chronic incurable disease suffers should be excused work?

Good on him, have you seen those guys tied up by the feet and arms hanging over a fire. Absolutely barbaric the way they treat captives.

As most of yer know, I am a music fan. However, I never have and never will understand how that prat and his band made it so big. Jazus, just two minutes of listening to his whiny voice and those dirgy lyrics is enough to make most folks start looking for the Samaritan's phone number. My youngest son thinks he's great, so do some of the younger fellas in the pub, I just don't gerrit!

With you on that about The Smiths 100% Rats, but "How Soon Is Now" is still a stonking single. Johnny Marr synchronised two Vox AC30s on the "tremolo" channels and created a truly original sound. Very few guit-fiddlers can lay claim to a unique sound. e&oe...
