A boat would hold more and be more cost effective. My thoughts exactly!

Nob surely you're old enough to remember "Cream"? Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker. They played it all, from rhythm and blues to heavy metal. Saleswise they were more popular in the US than here and they never had a No1 hit either side of the Pond but they were a greatly revered band.

Not "heavy metal" Peter (although I agree that's subjective- I think there's general agreement on that) Blues, heavy blues and some jazz(ier) leanings too IMO. The latter is not surprising since Ginger was a really jazz drummer and Jack who was classically trained on the cello (and had the best voice in Cream to Eric's chagrin) was quite happy in that arena too. They were not one of my favourites, and I certainly don't rate Eric as "god", but I have to acknowledge their monumental contribution in such a very brief but heady period. RIP Ginger and Jack, probably bickering at the bar wherever they've ended up.

A lad I was friendly with back in the day played with Ginger Baker. It wasn't with Cream, might have been Blind Faith. Rick Grech was his name, nice lad who unfortunately blew it all away. Last I heard of him was many years ago when he was playing with a trio in a local pub, another pal told me that Rick asked after me. He's dead now, shame 'cos he was a top kid when I knew him!

Ric Gretsch, I don't remember how his name is spelled. I'm thinking of the musical instrument manufacturer. I have a Gretsch "Committee" bass mark one here hanging on the wall. He played bass and fiddle?? You would know better than I if you knew him. Could well have been "Family". A far more inventive band than Cream. (IMO opinion of course)

Hes still playing different gigs. Cream were only together two years him and Bruce just didn't get on and Clapton was well out of it.

Actually, when I first met Rick I didn't even know that he was a musician, he didn't mention it. I got to know him 'cos we went to the same clubs in town and I knew a couple of his friends. The first time I knew that he was a musician was when I went somewhere, and he was playing bass guitar with the band that was playing, around '62/'63 I s'pose! OK on that Nob. I heard that he'd died recently and even went so far as to tell another music obsessed and gig-going mate as such. My guess is that I must have dreamed it and you know... There's no other way for me to explain it. Reminds me of posting on another forum about Ravi Shankar's demise, only to be informed that it was another Ravi Shankar who was a film director or something. Welcome back Ginger, what was it like down there! BTW, isn't it Ric and not Rick? I expect it was a muso's affectation anyway. Family; what a band that was now? Chapman's voice... I think he came from Leicester? e&oe... Edit: see here! en.mediamass.net/people/ginger-baker/deathhoax.html I wasn't going daft, despite what all you drinkers must think! and here's the Gretsch... There's many more for anyone that might be interested... e&oe!

Yea, Chapman is a Leicester lad, I knew him too. But hmmmm, to say that we didn't get on is an understatement, nearly came to blows with the prat once, in fact if the slimy prick had had any bottle, that's what would have happened. If we had come to blows, we might have got on better afterwards, as it was, I lost any respect for him! TBF...he did have a voice!
