Just thought I would share my experiences with linux. My first was fedora 10. It was good, but because of very low RAM, it crashed very often. Then I tried ubuntu, and, needless to say, I fell in love with it. It was very easy to use. Then, of course, I started using XFCE, because of the low RAM. Enter Jaunty. My graphics card had a problem, so the desktop effects were very bad, in fact, the graphics sucked , so I tried downloading Mandriva thrice, without success. Then I tried kubuntu, but I hated KDE. I downloaded Fedora 11, and installed it. I must admit, it was a pain in the ass to get it up and running. First, my screen resolution was 800x600. I had to go on a rampage in the command line to get it to work properly. Next, it was very trying to get my favourite applications, because it was damn hard to find the RPM packages, and issues kept cropping up. The other day, I apparently had a kernel failure. Then, I noticed the bootloader showing me two Fedoras. In effect, Fedora 11 (Leonidas) was very trying, and Fedora 10 was better. After that, it ran fine, and I have some amount bling on my desktop. I am on the Puppy linux Live CD, and I must say, applications open in a blink, and it makes Mac OSX look like a joke (I am also looking at you, Windows) I am also downloading SimplyMEPIS (a distro based on Debian), and I will tell you about my adventure on it when it completes downloading, and when I run it.

It'll be good to let us know how you get on - I still haven't made the switch to Linux.

How much RAM do you have, by the way?
From what I've read, you need 512mb minimum
