Another site worth keeping an eye on is the ospreys at Loch Garten, near Aviemore (about 25 miles from here). There are 3 young on the nest just now. Last year 2 out of 3 chicks survived and they were tagged so it was possible to follow their progress to West Africa, once they left the nest and began their migration. Details were fed into Google Earth and you could follow the birds using that. Amazing isn't it ? Unfortunately 1 of the young birds turned right as it crossed the Channel and was lost (presumably drowned) somewhere near the Azores. The other actually made it all the way to West Africa but was subsequently lost. The RSPB are hoping to be able to tag this year's young. Anyway here's the link www.rspb.org.uk/webcams/birdsofprey/lochgartenvideo.aspIf you d/click the vid, it goes to full screen.
