I've just sussed out that ubuntu 9.04 and "jaunty jackalope" are one and the same!! (damned silly name I reckon). Anyway...it's up and running and I've transfered a lot of stuff, but when I play my mp3 music, I can hardly hear it. I've turned the master sound control to max. This happens with each media player that I've tried! It wasn't like that when I used 8.01.

I'm sure it would Ade, but the website heading is "ubuntugeek" and I'm a step or two away from being one of them! That's like a Chinese take away menu (in Mandarin) to me! As a matter of fact, I went out for a Chinky last night.I ordered a dish I'd never had before, and underneath the noodles I saw these two eyeballs looking at me! Turned out it was the peeking duck!

Well..as it's been raining all morning, and 'cos I was a tad bored,I decided to have another pop at sorting the sound out on THIS ubuntu lappy! I printed off the info from your (Ade's) link and tried my best to follow the instructions.Guess what....sodding thing worked. After installing a gazillion updates/plugins and wotsits. Then changing a load of audio settings,I clicked on one of my stones albums, and the wax shot out of my ears! As a matter of fact, the audio is better on this linux machine than it is on my xp machines! Cheers Ade..head honcho for linux!

Not the pre- installed ones, some of them in Add/ Remove Software. Which ones though ? There may be a workaround or patch to make them work !

Thanks, Ade, but the applications I saw are not of any particular use to me. I was just mentioning that some application do not work in 64 bit operating system.
