Well...after mucho pissing about, yer boy has actually managed to get the Sopcast streamed video to work in Ubuntu.
Actually it isn't the Sopcast player that shows the streams, it's another player called MPlayer.
To be honest...I'm not totally sure how I did it, but it's working fine. I did have to install Sopcast using the Terminal command line, but the code can be googled, along with the names of some other files that can be installed from the repositories in 'Synaptic Package Manager'
Once the Player is installed, this is what you do. (well I did anyway)
1/ Open the Sopcast Player from ‘Applications’ > ‘Sound and Video’
2/ Get the channel URL from which ever streaming site that’s being used.
3/ Then click ‘File’ in the Sopcast Player and ‘Open’
4/ Paste the URL in the address box and click ‘OK’
ps....Make sure that the MPlayer is the default player for Sopcast.
In the menu bar, click ‘Edit’ and ‘Preferences’ .... then make sure that the ‘Use external Player’ box is ticked.
So...if any other masochist fancies trying this, let me know and I'll try and help.
